Little HiFi Installation in Smart 454 Brabus

Hello everybody,

after i get done with the basic technical repairs / restoration from that car it whas time for the real purpose.

HeadUnit

Here i have a Kenwood DMX8020DABS including active combination antenna (GPS/FM/DAB) from Bad Blankenburg is used on the roof. The Ignition is buffered by Mundorf PCC68i HeadCap while starting the engine (HeadUnit & Amps / DSP want restart then).

Mounting rings

For the assembly of the loudspeakers, special mounting rings were milled and powdered in high-gloss black by powder factory

Front doors woofers

Since the Smartie only has a strange 12.5 cm chassis screwed on the door panels, you had to act thoroughly to accommodate 16.5 cm chassis properly.

The multilayer insulation was implemented using Variotex 1.3, StP Bomb, StP Silver Black, StP Biplast and a few remnants of Autofun. The speaker cutouts have been enlarged and are screwed to the mounting ring on the front using 2x aluminum rings and 1x steel ring. The front doors thus weighed in without the speakers +17Kg more.

In the course, all cables, windows, hinges and seals of the doors were exchanged and the window mechanism was cleaned and greased etc

The midrange drivers find space on the converted dashboard with the help of the mounting rings / counter rings and again some StP Silver Black and StP Biplast

Subwoofer

The subwoofer is housed in the huge trunk

Due to the huge trunk, a Focal E30KX with 22mm +/- excursion in 100L 4th order bandpass is used, conveniently including still enough space for the tuning certificates/papers folder (for german police control)

Power amplifiers, DSP & PowerCap

2x Alpine PDX F6 for the front / rear speakers and 1x Alpine PDX M12 for the subwoofer are used as power amplifiers under the seats.
The signal processing is carried out by a Helix DSP Ultra including WiFi control and the P-Cap from AudioSystem is used as the PowerCap.
30mm² cables go from the battery to the AIV distributor and from there with 25mm² to the power amplifiers / PowerCap, with 2.5mm² into the fuse distributor and 1.5mm² to the processor & WiFi control.

The mounting rings for the loudspeakers are "universal" in order to be able to change components and test them in real life in the shortest possible time. In addition, Tamiya sockets are installed everywhere, so that I can connect any speaker (with suitable inside / outside dimensions) Plug & Play with the right plug.

As always, my dealer Speaker-City helped me with everything I am too incapable of doing.
So you can comfortably listen to your best of greek songs. Its still not completely finished but the most work has be done.
