Okay, I'd like your specific opinions on this. I am thinking of getting our next r-colt demo, which is silver in color and powder coating the wheels gloss black or a gloss dark grey/charcoal and painting the calipers red like our last demo.
What do you think? Dark grey or black? Im trying to go for a look like the images below. Your thoughts will be appreciated.

are u painting the wheel arches too?
McCoy
12-10-2007, 03:08 PM
Nope, not doing the wheel arches. Will powder coat the wheels, paint the calipers red, whack in an optional evo 9 weight adjustable billet gear knob, probably some mats, and might get some stickers made up. I was thinking somthing liek Colt R Evolution.
Kinda like this:

Yer all you need now is AWD and twice the wheel kw so real EVO mitsi boys have nothing to laugh about... ditch those stickers and get some RCult stickers made up

12-10-2007, 04:34 PM
actually i think a JDM "Version R" sticker would probably look better.

12-10-2007, 04:38 PM
yeah man ditch the sticker.. and if u don't mind defacing the wheels go for it, looks alright in the pic u did up
McCoy
12-10-2007, 04:47 PM
Will do a 'Version R' sitcker at a later date for sure, but the ones I did I am happy with for the time being. As for the wheels, I've just booked them in for powder coating. :D

McCoy, how much would it cost to powder coat the wheels? :)
McCoy
12-10-2007, 05:44 PM
$320 plus I have to factor on taking tyres off, and whacking them back on afterwards.

The grey seems to look a lot better....and im not a huge fan of the sticker...i reckon it'd look sweet with a turbo badge whacked next to the Colt badge from the BA XR6T, or any turbo badge for that matter...oh and red brake calipers....SWWWWEEEEETTTT....i havent been game yet!

How much is the ralliart gear knob?
McCoy
12-10-2007, 10:00 PM
Carbon fibre evo 9 knob $220 Incl GST. (Not a fan personally )
http://www.ralliart.com.au/images/accessories05.jpg
Weight Adjustable Evo 9 knob $247.50 Incl GST.

The weight adjustable gear knob would suit the colt well as the standard gear knob is super light and the weight adjustable knob gives a more positive feel.

Car will be on a hoist, and thats okay as it gives me time to get the brake calipers painted while the wheels are off.

:UPDATE:
Okay, there is an issue with our wheels. The clear layer over the top of the painted wheels needs to be removed chemically as sand blasting will just tear it to pieces and subsequently pitt the wheels to hell.
So, first you have to get them chemically peeled with some sort of special stuff (sorry, forgot the name) that affect's the plastic coating and not the rim itself, last thing you want is to acid bath them and weaken your wheels, so they get bathed in some sort of solvent, then a light sand blasting, and THEN whack on the power coat. Going for a color called onyx black. Its a dark charcoal metallic. Should look good, but I'm still about 1 week away from this happening. Will post pics when its all done.
$35 chemical strip per wheel.
$35 sandblast and powder coat per wheel.

That means 280 for 4 wheels. Sounds alright to me. Can't wait to see the final look on the car :)

Trade pricing I guess. As soon as there done I'll take a pic and whack them up here, currently the car is still on a hoist taking up valuable space in our workshop. :o
Anything else I should be doing to this car guys? I was thinking a TMR exhaust, and anything I fit has to be either a Ralliart or TMR part as its a new car to be on sold.

get the ralliart rear diffuser and the twin exhaust's, then when you find them we can all get them as they seem to be a ghost product made to tease us...

are you kidding i would charge about $60 a wheel to paint the standard wheels inside and out and hats tacking the tyers off the wheels and putting the tyers on and ballance them. Thats in Poliurathine paint too so it will not chip and if you scratch it it can be cut back and polished, can also do it in a matte finish too.
PS there is no protective coat its just paint on the standard wheels

the twin exhaust looks porn!!!
but black rims on a silver car would look good!!! as for a turbo badge, it would look good if the colors matched the car or badges :)

I just took some with my phone, I'll take some proper photo's tomorrow. These pics dont do the car justice, it looks sensational! You cant really see the grey in these pics as my phone is rubbish, but the grey metallic fleck comes out nicely.

Wow... thats HOT!!!
you have just inspired me to do the same thing my with Silver Rcolt... that really does look amazing.
Or on the other hand, I could just never clean my wheels and let the brake dust settle in LOL.
Thanks for the pics McCoy. I'm sure that one wont be on the floor for long.

Some more pics, this time not taken with my phone.
Still waiting on some ralliart centre caps, and that looks like it will take some time before they arrive. Pretty happy with the overall result, I think a set of mats, and a Ralliart Filter (when they finally arrive as they are also ex-japan and were done) would finish of this particular car.

Looks good, amazing how the standard 16 inch wheels look a lot larger than they actually are with the dark paint, definately suits the silver duc!:)

I'm with you on the spolier and wheel nuts steve, but its a new car, so we cant go to silly. When I finally get my hands on some nuts (that sounds omminous doesnt it... :o ) I'll post up some more pics.
Thanks for the comments guys! I reckon this treatment would also work well on a white car.

Nope not sold yet, however I did put it on carsales.com and cars guide the other day. I've had a few email enquiries on the car in the last two days, so it looks like my taste in do-ups isnt too shabby. :D
As far as selling interstate, thats easy to organise phil.
