I noticed a few people on here have the Galaxy S2 like me... it's a damn fine phone...

Anyways I have done an install and made some cables which take the audio from the usb port and change it to a 3.5mm jack and ALSO charges the phone at the same time...

It's a pretty clean look and I need to shorten one part of the cable still. If anyone wants me to make them a cable let me know - or a car mount...

Cable and car mount cost would be around $40 shipped it's a pretty clean look I reckon. Plus depending on your usb charger the cable will transmit the full 1A of power - most cables restrict the power to 450ma... so if you are listening to music and using GPS Navigation the power will still drain.

Another key point of awesomeness is vids you can record of the road while driving if you want... can stick this mount on any window or flat surface to record and swivel mount to record what you want to record.

It involves soldering resistors and crap and a fair bit of work.

Anyways here are some pics...

The position of the phone makes it great for using with Torque app on the phone too. It also cops the cool air from the air conditioner in the summer too, which is good cause in the Summer heat coming though our MASSIVE windscreen the phone could get pretty hot before when using GPS, Torque, and listening to music.

The very bottom right hand side of the phone sits about an inch behind the windscreen wiper "stalk"

without further ado... here are the pics.

will take a couple of pics in the next few hours of just the mount. the mount uses a Garmin GPS disc to stick to, it's removable without leaving any holes or damage to the interior. I use a ventilated protective case for the holder and attach that to a short suction cup holder thingy, basically i trialled and errored a bunch of cases and suction cups till i got something I was happy with.

By using the disc to attach to I was able to make a similar holder that attaches the same way for my wife's HTC Desire - so when we change the holder it's really quick and easy. The holder that is not being used gets stored underneath the steering wheel in the little ledge thing there, fits really well and stays right out of the way.

I've just got an air vent mount for the S2, really need to run power to the phone as it chews through the power when using the gps & navigation. Love my S2, don't know what I'd do without it in Perth.

Awesome! I usually just use the micro USB to USB data cable to the USB port on my HU... So it comes with the perks of being able to charge (probably not full 1A as above), and control media from the HU rather than the phone, and it's almost perfect. The only peeve I got is when the phone mounts as mass storage, then a call/txt comes through it no longer uses the user defined tones and reverts to the stock Samsung notification tones. - Most annoyingly the default message notification won't stfu until the phone is attended to and while driving it's annoying as all shite.

This cable do-jobbie would obviously resolve this issue, but the downside is audio has to be controlled from the phone and not the HU.

I like the holder you made, I saw a DIY on one of the droid forums for a different type of droid phone but same principle - looks mega sturdy, was just a little resided to make one because of having to pull the phone out of it's cover to clip it in the holder and vice versa.

I threw my HD7 up on the front triangle window... Audio and power cables run behind the dash/side panel...

Yeah I thought of that, but my boost gauge is in the way to use that window.
I also figured out how to fix the ringtone/notification issue, just have to copy the files to respective folder under: \system\media\
Essentially all you need to do is root your 'droid, and I don't mean dinner and movies with a happy ending... :P

Looks neat, however that window is a must for visibility for me. It would create a blind spot in my vision. I wish that A pillar wasn't so fat sometimes..

Do it, it's worth owning an S2 for that app alone, plus the fact that the S2 has a decent sized screen as well to display the gauges.
