Or I guess the other option is just sway bars and braces...

Ask first, "what do I want it for?"

OR: TMR springs + rear ralliart bush kit (still available for cheap!) + whiteline rear sway bar + whiteline front anti-lift bushes = good enough.

I've only ever had OEM or coilovers, but I love the ability to infinitely tweak ride height settings etc myself. Saves a lot of hassle esp if you have a driveway as fked as mine atm... I actually got my car marooned on a broken chunk of the driveway Monday morning and had to leave it there till after I got home from work. Needless to say if I get time tomorrow I'm raising the front more until driveway is fixed and a normal car can get down it let alone a lowered one...

I want it for everyday driving and occaisional track work.. My options are to get a swaybar and use it with my current springs (pedders) or get coilovers.. Would coilovers and a swaybar be overkill??

Start with some sways +/- springs and go from there.

A lot of coilovers (especially cheap ones) seem to come over sprung and dont have the best dampening. As a result handling performance will suffer on anything but a nice smooth racetrack.

If you like a car that crashes over bumps and transmits everything on the road, a cheap set of over sprung coilovers are for you.

$1000 or less.

if you want coils that ride well get the tein set. they go for like 1500 on nengun i think. 3kilo front, 2 kilo back. best of both worlds.

Ahh ok, thanks.. I wudnt know what ppl mean by cheap as i was looking at the bc br series coils i thought they cud have been the "cheap ones" isnt 3kg and 2kg too soft?? Cos the bc coils r like 5kg and 4kg.. Thts the other thing i dunno bout suspension, the spring rates..

Some people love BC's and some people reckon they are shit. Pricewise tthey are all over the place to, some being like Maccas at 800ish and some costing up to 1200+. theres more to ride comfort etc then just spring rates but for an everyday car on shitty sydney streets. 3 kilo springs would be nice. btw i got it wrong the tein super compact coils are 3 all round, the mono flex are 5 front and 4 rear.

edit: on a certain site i cant name cause ryan will hit me, mono flex are like 2200 and super compact are 1600. not including shipping

In a lighter car I consider the 5/4 rates a little on the harsh side at times, though I haven't properly set them up as yet... one day lol.
I had 7.5/6 in ~1300kg sedan, found it quite nice ride. Good balance for street.

Be surprised to know that the stock rate's are at the 1 - 2kg range. So, 3kg is really good enough for overall condition. BC come stock with 8-9kg for the colt, so one has to get them to change the springs before delivery.

Personally, if one's going for pure handling improvement, i would say go with the bush and sway bar. These alone, i reckon will make it as good as one with just a coilover change. (but don't quote me on that)

BZZZZZZZZZT! Wrong. They are 5kg front and 4kg rear. They used to come in stiffer rates, but you can custom order.

Pedders springs are top stuff, coilovers are very hit n miss to get right whereas pedders get the springs how they should have come as standard factory, takes the tallboy stance outa the Colt and can be fitted by yourself

Bzzzttt.
I bought them a few months ago. They come 5 and 4 out of the box, no special order.
They come with camber adjustment plates.

I wrote shit about this before.
I also wrote why pedders or anybodies springs on stock shocks is not so good. Better but just a bandaid.

Personally I don't think the BC are that fantastic but they are a reasonable price and they work and the car handles a lot better.
5kg/mm and 4g/mm is a bit too stiff for the road, but when I drive my wifes stock Rcolt then I realize it isn't that bad.

Anyway shocks and springs over a too stiff sway bar anyday.

Braces do nothing. They can't, they are only 2D...I won't go on about it.
IMHO

The Pedders give a crashy ride in the rcolt, especially on undulating surfaces where it can affect outright grip and traction - great for perfectly smooth roads, but tiring on typical Oz roads. Why did I have Pedders fitted, because there was little choice at the time. King Springs I'd imagine would be the same.

Better off with TMR springs specifically made for the Ralliart Colt (not the N/A colt), or import one of the Japanese branded progressive rate springs.
