Well i been driving her heaps over the last few days, has 950 on it already.
Went down to kiama and saw ma dad, he had a drive of it, with me in the pax seat, we went thru all the back roads at kangaroo vally, up hills windy tight stuff was awesome!
He loved driving it heaps, his comment were, it just stuck to the road so so well. And wants to drive it again.
On sunday went to a mates place up stanwell park, he has owned many a nice car. (currently in his driveway is an RX8, Mini Cooper S new version (for sale) and VW EOS)
We took it for a nasho run, i drove in and he drove out, by god, the road was damn and it stuck like a pig in shit, traction control worked well, controlled the little understeer, then on the way by my mate was much more brave than me in the corners, as i have never driven down there. we were both very very impressed. our acs system worked well exiting the wet corners comming onto boost out of them :D
The i nearly died when we got back to his place and i realised i never closed the bonnet propley, and it was cocked open !!!
Ill never do that again!
Im waiting on some bit to turn up from ebay, and sorting alarm, and the stereo out this week :D
I need a digi cam to get some decent pics.
She is very dirty, and damn after 2 days the wheeles were another colour!
im soo happy i bought this carrr

Where'd u get the filter from and how much? How long did it take to install?
Macca
24-08-2007, 09:48 PM
You get the direct from mitsubishi parts
$150ish $ now
took about 30 minutes to install sue to having to remove 2 intake pipes, and larger handed people will need to remove battery.
Also measured that 90deg intercooler pipe 44mm and the hose is a 50mm hose ;)

Stuck the midbass drivers from my Diamond Audio M5 set in today
5.25" magnesium alloy splits :D
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/Macca_gong/03092007.jpg
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/Macca_gong/03092007001.jpg
as you can see fully pro custom mounts ;)
the drivers were bigger than the space between the stock screw holes by about 5mm, so the 2nd ring was made, and the offending area cut out. (still a full ring around the mid)
the hole behind the mids was just a lil too big to make new holes for new mids, so thats how i made the mount.
2 layers of 6mm MDF, and trimmed a lil off the door trim so there was no clearence issues as the door trim has a round baffle that sits up agenst the foam.
Still running off stock deck but sounds much better.
Alpine HU going in asap, i just need to remove the loom from the mirage, thats now in kiama.

Good stuff! You wonder why they put a reasonable head unit in but match it up with crappy speakers - perhaps it's foresight on mitsubishi's behalf, guessing that most people will upgrade regardless of what the OE is!
Do the speakers distort at high levels still, or have the replacement speakers overcome this (might be lack of wattage on the head units behalf)
Any idea what the rear speakers are and what size, come to think of it, not sure where they are anyway? :)
Macca
03-09-2007, 10:59 PM
rear speakers are identical to the front. and are in the lower part of the door.
they start to distort at around 37 on the stock unit with bass on +4
I got an alipine unit to go in, then run to an alpine PXA-h600 old school processor, then to some 2 channel amps for fronts(they are splits fitted, but only half atm) and sub.
i don't believe in rear fill :p
also everything will be fitted under the front seats bar the sub.

HU installed today, didnt get time to install the boost or volt gauges, but left some wiring spare for the volt meter.

Did i mention im a neat loom freak ;)
Bought an arepro adaptor that the stock looms plugs into, so was much quicker and easy as, even all the colours mached up correct.
Didnt even have to disconnect the battey as the loom was worked on outside the car, just had to add a ground wire.

New counterweight Drift gear knob!
Shiny!! and only $50, just need to make the gear boot come up a lil more to cover the rest of the shifter, a zip tie or 5 underneith will fit that.
Got my boost gauge back from repair, still stuffed, it reads fine now, but has a huge rattle on the inside still.
but insted of hitting 13 psi as i was before, i now only get 11psi.
Oh forgot to add, the knob has to weigh like 500 grams or more, bloddy heavy, but makes the feel of the shifter SOOOOO much better!!!
I reckon everyone should go buy one, it makes a big difference!

Superor Sound processing, basically back in the day (1999) Time Alignment and high end EQ and phase processors could not fit into the case of a headunit.
The alpine unit does all of the above, uses high quality components, i bought it 2nd hand back in 03 for like $500 they were about a grand new i think, a decent headunit can do the same as the processor, but the processor has optical inputs too, but i dont use them :( I was going to sell it, but i realised these days she isnt worth much over $100.
And i love time alignment so its staying the they system, + it also means i dont have to run a heap of RCA's form the front, just an AI-Net cable.

More work more work done, Man, it takes alot of effort to install a stereo!
Do yall think its overkill? ;)
Tweeters mounted in doors, i acctully paid a shop to do it LOL Drill 2 holes and crimp 2 cables cost me $30 too easy!
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/Macca_gong/P1010060.jpg
You can see the 4awg running down the pax side, black and blue wires are in the factory door grommets for the mids and tweeters in the front and wires are going to under the front pax seat.
The purple wire is for the amp grounds.
Center Console and the trim under the dash removed as i have to run a few cables thru there.

Everything was installed. The drivers seat fitted JUST by like 1cm, Then i sat in the seat DOH, It saggs onto the processor, so ill have to take that bit out and chop it down more.
Wiring took ages to run thru and connect up, but by 6pm she fired into life, and the sub didnt work, re reading the instructions i wires it in wrong, some jumper wires later, it worked :D
The stereo had crap midbass, and the sub sounded very sloopy, so i turned the sub box around to face the rear of the boot, and then plugged the control unit into the processor and reset all the adjustments.
All speakers were checked to be in phase, and then after dinner i gave it a tune, EQ'ed more mid bass in at 80 and 200 Hz, then took an hour to decide what i should set the tweeters too, ended up putting them at -2db on the xovers.
Loaded my time alignment track, and proceeded to tune it, OMG i love time alignment!!!
Now everything was sounding AWESOME AS!!!!!!!!!
dropped the LPF on the sub to 80hz, and HPF the front end just above 40hz, runnng it all just below half gains, get damn loud!
so now at the end of the day my garrage is a mess, and i still dont have the passenger seat in. need to tie the wiring down there, and install that seat.
Still waiting for the AUX input ainet lead to arrive from the US, then everything can be finished, and ill look at making some sort of parcle shelf and replace the current sub.

Took her to the drags last night, spotted killercolt there, he got 1 of ma runs on camera fone.
i ran 2x 15.4's and 2x 15.9's
I went with ma brother who has a bf mk2 xr8 ute 5300km on the clock and the first run he was only 0.68 seconds faster!!! :D
he ended up running a 14.487 and i ran a 15.487 haha exactley 1 second faster on the 2nd run we did togeather, his fastest run was a 14.4 so the r colt pulls quite well down the 1/4 for a lil 4 banger.
I asked to go in the same lane as him and i was running agenst all the nuts v8's haha got 4 runs in by 8:30, could have had 6 runs that night but we had enough and drove home.

Did I miss something? How are you getting over 1bar without CEL?
I had mine set to 1.1bar with a TS MBC, took it for a drive and after about 1 1/2 hours CEL came on so I wound it back. (Drop my missus off at work and come home thru the city) Drove it for the same amount of time, Limp mode. Turned it back. got back down to 0.9Bar steady with no problems.. Then had to service the car so I sold it to Morph.
What's the longest you've driven with it set at 14.5PSI ?

Oh man that's good news, those scratches look pretty nasty. Mine's getting similar scratches for no apparent reason, I always hand wash and chamois it with a clean chamois. NFI what's going on with it ey. And stick with the green, it's a good look.
Macca
20-06-2008, 09:35 PM
What do you wash with?
Chamois will be causing some, and do you use a sponge? That will cause the rest.
Ditch the chamois for a big big micrfiber towel, and change the sponge to either a lambs wool mit, or a micrfiber mit, somthing with long hairs in it, so when you wipe the dirt travles deep into the mit, and dont scratch.
And use 2 buckets of water, one with suds and one for cleaning the mit after wiping on the car
why_bother
21-06-2008, 09:34 AM
Yeah mate, always used a sponge & chamois. I'll give that a shot then. Even on my old car that I put in shows, I used a sponge & chamois. It was white though.. Strange, it's not like I use cheap shitty sponges or cheap chamois. I've got some mcguiars car wash & use autoglym polish... the polish fixes it 99.9% of the time, but it's still annoying.

a question my front low profile tyres seems to be flatter then the back is it because of the engine at the front making it look a little flatter then the back??? is this normal???

Very nice Macca, I'm guessing that springs will be next on the shopping list. The front tyre looks squished, as the front wheel will sit at an angle on the road when on full lock, and not dead flat.:)

lol whoops my mistake :p
awww, i was thinking something like those Rims with the red Ring, but looking at Macca's Rcolt, i think i will think twice, i don't know but i feel that the pattern don't go too well with the colt. I don't know why but maybe it just there are too many lines or details in the pattern, the one that first got me thinking on the rims with red ring was the one they use on the colt turbo on Motor Mag. May 2006 i will get the scan in sometime soon to show. don't get me wrong btw it a good looking rims just for me it feel a bit off on the colt that all.
or it could be lighting issues if the background is a bit darker it may look great.

You mean these wheels. It's just a matter of personal taste really, everyone strives to have a different looking ride.:)
why_bother
12-01-2009, 08:01 PM
that's the rims i was trying to emulate when i got mine. it's a matter of taste for sure, but it's also the exact style wheel that suits the car.
i originally wanted 17 or 18" non-dark rims.. in fact i wanted the fat 5 spoke rims off a peugot but they're a different stud pattern (4 x 108 iirc)

Easy thing to do :p too much catalyst in the resin... the more catalysy you use the hotter and quicker it will set... and the more it will shrink ;)

How's the KN doing so far? does it gets enough air through that hose and the old intake circuit? I'm worried about that it doesn't get enough fresh air and read RPW's filter tests post and found out that when the engine heats pod filter looses power due to the heat soaking.

More mods this week
Finally after soome delayed shipping due to the volcano eruption in Europe my Footrest cover turned up.
Foot rest cover, Riveted onto the footrest covers. Note the position of the upper rivit......Its wrong
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/Macca_gong/P1020463.jpg
From underneith you can see its too close to the end one rivet and fouls on the footrest when you try and pop it in.
Also note I got rivets that were a lil long, so used some flat nuts to space it, Also use washers when your riveting on plastic so the rivet head doesnt dig into the plastic. These were 9.8mm grip rivits, 6.x should be a lil better depending on the washer you use.
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/Macca_gong/P1020464.jpg
Redrilled a new hole in the cover for the rivet in the middle where it wont foul. And drilled the oops wrong hole rivet off.
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/Macca_gong/P1020467.jpg
And Finished!
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/Macca_gong/P1020470.jpg
And I quite like it :D
Just completes the alloy look from the pedals in the footwell. Could have spaced it a lil further away from the trim on the left top, it touching rather well haha.

Hey Macca, I noticed from pics when you first got your car the bonnet protector was clear and later on it appears to be blacked out. Did you do it yourself? How so?

Macca
02-06-2010, 12:37 PM
one can of spray paint, painted it on the inside so it doesnt chip or anything.
It will prtect the very front edge, which generally gets peppered but you will still get a few not too many latter on the hood.
Come to think of it, some 3m di noc carbon fiber vinyl would look cool and also protect the hood LOL

Its a shame I couldnt get the surround off the gear stick lever that silver with out breaking it due to its clips.

While it was all apart I took the fight to change the blue coloured lights in the AC controls to red ones.
They are red coloured LAMPS NOT LEDS!
So they give the right amount of light spread, the only dodgie part is the blue section on the heat control.
Disregard the lights in the Boost and volt gauges i cant find a decent LED one to fit the boost gauge that fits in, bought several ones that dont fit :(

But first time doing it, used a heat gun and took my time.

Ah okay thanks. I hope it holds up to the summer heat! We get 45C days here in Vic in summer so the cabin temps will exceed 60C which might make the vinyl peel? Anyway can always redo with heatgun. If I had the time I'd do it myself too.

Autobahn 88 Intake pipe!!!! :D :D :D
Excuse blurry pics i didn't use a tripod, and well I was still shaky from gym LOL
Quality is good, not perfect, but at that price, im not complaining one bit.
Silicon hoses are good quality
Band clamps are way big as you can see, Even a deep socket might struggle, I don't own any at home, so i had to use a spanner once it didn't fit a normal socket.
Fit really well with the K&N pod kit, alot better, Yes its a little fiddly to line it all up well before, I found the best way was to get the clamp & joiner tight and done up on the turbo inlet first, Put the other blue hoses on the intake pipe and do them up loose with the AFM one so you can adjust it.
Assemble the pod and AFM tight and sit it ontop of the gear box, BEFORE you put the intake pipe in, the pod wont fit otherwise once the pipe is in.
Stick the PVC pipe on the engine
Put the intake pipe in, and then attack the BOV / Recirc valve
Put the pod on, then line everything up and start doing it all up.
I made a custom bracket to sit it off the battery as you can see, It used to be flat with the stock pipe with a 2nd band clamp around the stock one.
The kit just happened to line up perfect and have heaps of thread on the clamp to bend it as seen and do it up easy as neat and tight 10/10 for that one, That strap you can find in bunnings for like $2 or so, no expencive, cut it to size, drill the holes a little bigger,, bent it then paint if you want, mine was painted when it was flat and broke the paint when i bended it. Its awesome stuff I have used it on a few cars and comein different sizes, see my fuse hold for example.
Looks awesome when finished.
Sounds AMAZING with the pod filter louder and clearer sounding spool.
The stock BOV sounds like an aftermarket ATMO bov, really really nice sounds its kick ass, with this setup you wont ever need a atmo bov.
Performance? Not sure yet only driven it around town, couldn't tell much as yet.

That looks fantastic mate, I may consider getting something like this while waiting on the reflash. What are your intake temps like? I'm wondering if this setup could be about as good as a CAI seeing as you have a cold air feed running from the front bumper to the pod filter? Also, perhaps you could make up some kind of heat shield arrangement to further reduce intake temps.
Macca
15-06-2010, 07:08 PM
Where the pod is right now is temporary until some more parts arrive from overseas, then the pod will me moved.
same intake temps as before the intake pipe but once moving they drop down.

Cost about $30ish INCLUDING the key to be cut, from eBay, a locksmith with 28 years in the business from Sydney sells them, All mail order for me, I got the Ignition Key number, then confirmed it on the spair, as I still had the original paper work for it. He sets the machine up to cut from a number, doesn't need the old key.
So he sends out the Empty Key Fob and you just swap over the Buttons and internals?
And is the Ign.Key number the one on the back of the original Key Fob??

Hey good one yo !
Can I be a PITA and ask you to take pics of the original key .. with all the parts off .. I still have not gotten around to taking it apart and changing the the flat battery. I am worried that my pudgy fingers will break something !
Macca
09-08-2010, 05:35 PM
Yup Milo he sends a blank shell with the a blank blade. Not sure on if the number is on the key, it qA 5 digit number that was on a small metal tag on my keys when I got them, You can also go ask a dealer, as they can pull it up on their system, which I had done as well.
Stylo there is 3 parts inside the stock key, not taking apart again cause it was fiddly to put together haha
The parts are the buttons, small platic bit
The electronics box, its a red and white clear plastic thing, just sits inside, it is just loose, and you pry it in half to gain access to the battery.

The 3 port spools sooooo fast its nuts.

But no issues than mega boost but its spiking due to not having a full exhuast, which I got a quote for and all though very expensive its going to be top of the line local work.

Awesome work, expensive but he knew his stuff, was nice as, and put effort and thought into it.
Why the cat so far back? Keeps heat away from the sump, and lets the gas get the hell out of the area from the turbo before it hits a restriction. You couldn't get away with it on a car that has not been reflashed. As both the front and rear o2 sensors are reading the same and we have not spaced the 2nd one at all. NO CEL ISSUES!
Very Nice.... I approve!! :)

Yup same as Ryans
Shadow is the brand
They are the Shadow Pro series.
I got them from Just Jap, cheap as well $220 for the two.
Yes the White is heaps better to read than my red back lit autometer ones
If you dont like smoked they also make ones with a white face and red LED's, Just japs ones the bosst is in PSI thou, which is what I wanted.

I went the smoked with white lights to match the pro sport one I ordered which looks like they came from the same factory but the pro sport has a built in button where this one is external buttons.
These shadow ones have a peak recall, and also a warning, so it will beep above a pre set you can change.

Todays mods bitches hahaha
fitted the Autobahn88 upper intake pipe.
Ok its designed for the euro colt, its not well suited to our car and will need mods
I wacked the bracket a bit installed it, then bent it in situe to line up.
Where the blue joiner is, you should really install a 2"dia humped joiner, it will be longer, and will allow flex from the motor moving when driving, the pipes will also be a little out and will allow for that, as mine are now they are really tight, Im going to buy said joiner on the way to work tomorrow.
I also undid the bolts to the black stock pipe on the right when installing it.
The red silicon near the pod is to protect the pipe when my heatshield is installed as it rests on the intake pipe
and last but not least, its freaken close to the top of the hood when closed, got to be like 1cm in it if that, I took the vent off to check before I closed the hood.
Once again life the hood lift kit, Im the first in AU to install them on our colts, so there was a few Q's and umming about the install of them.

Few little odd jobs
Installed the gauges a little better, Added some dual wall heat shrink around the hose clamps that hold the gauges in and they sit a heap tighter now :D

27-07-2011, 05:06 PM
do u know what intake tempts ur getting running the pod?
Macca
27-07-2011, 06:22 PM
sure do, it all depends on the ambient temp of the day, so generally driving 70 and above you go about 5deg higher than ambient, Sitting at the lights it will crawl to up around 40's worst I have seen in traffic on a 38deg day was like 60 something
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/Macca_gong/IMG_0127.jpg
I do have a nice heat shield that made a large difference, but its not in at the moment as i have been remaking the bracket for months haha
