View Full Version : EOI - SA October Long Weekend Meet-up/Cruise (2nd October)

Hi Guys, after a bit of banter on some threads, thought i'd put the feelers out there to organise a meet-up and crusie for SA rcolt owners a bit in advance.

See how many cars we can get out there!

Route is yet to be planned, but will encompass an initial gathering at a meeting point followed by a cruise loop through the Adelaide Hills. Route yet to be determined, but will involve a couple of rest/re-grouping points in between and possibly somewhere to stop off for a bite to eat.

Roads will encompass some of the special stages used for the APS adelaide tarmac rally and former Classic Adelaide, should make for some good driving!

Aiming for Sunday 2nd October which is the long weekend, so hopefully not many people have to work.

Will be a day cruise probably starting at midday-ish.

Cheers

Frank

Nice one! Wouldn't mind putting your VRX side by side with an rcolt to check under the hood to see parts compatability (radiators etc).

I'm thinking checking out the panels etc. Wanna put the stock colt hatch on the RColt - reckon it would look alright without the bodykit on the hatch.

VRX comes with same rear spoiler as the RColt, would only be the old discontinued povo pack ES that doesn't get a body kit.

Nah I mean the one on the bottom edge of the hatch that matches up with the extended bumper of the RColt.

Yet to be determined Eli, i'll still have to sort out the run/details. Probably start up at the pizza bar carpark you guys have met at the last couple of times. Should be pretty quiet on a Sunday to meet up. Will also be close to the hills where the run will happen.

Good idea, a bit more central for all of us (considering i reckon 80% of rcolt owners in SA are from south/western suburbs). Nice and close for you anyway chris! :p

Yep, they should fit. Before the existence of coilovers in the local market, those Kings springs and the pedders were the only ones you could buy for the RG. Have you considered the Lovells springs, they sit a wee bit higher but apparently retain a reasonable non-crashy ride - around $280?

This is Blaze's rcolt with the Lovells, the ride height is perfect in my opinion.

Corosith
13-09-2011, 09:54 PM
......or I can sell you some hacksawed OEM springs (not really). Need to track down some tools to get the front strut tops off, my rattle gun just doesn't cut the mustard after attempting Darrens colt, you need something to stop the shocker shaft from spinning. It would save so much dough being able to do it, plus the driving back and forth just to get two nuts off.

sabeli
14-09-2011, 07:32 AM
lol i dont want hacksawed spring or used springs hahaha... i did try to get lovells but in the mean time they only had the rear ones and i was told it will take a few weeks to order the front one but i was desperate on the spot so i cooled down and on the other side they are much softer than pedders and kings... i prefer hard that will stop hitting the guards..

rokkuchan
14-09-2011, 11:04 AM
Want my springs? I should rephrase, my pedders aren't shit, I just don't like them but many others found them to be good for them.

Bcoz i had many other rides before, may be it's just the car itself but it's not up to my standards yet with what i want in terms of ride quality. Trying to find the balance between being very low and stiff - bad ride, and i know there's low and stiff while having good ride - achieved this in all previous rides.

I don't care for corners and shit, I just want it to look good while having good ride. If i want a car for corners, I'll get a car for corners and not give a crap about ride quality.

I think i will try and experiment with Tanabe springs. There's 3 types, DF, NF and GF. DF - the lowest (Down Force??), NF - ride quality (Nice Feel) and GF - best of both worlds? . I think GF is not available for the Colt but the other two are.

So i'm not sure which set to buy yet. DF has 2-3" drop where as NF has 1-2" drop - has best ride quality so they say.

If anyone needs a 1/8 to 3/8" 304 stainless adapters to install oil temp/pressure gauge sensors on the colt, I've got a couple of spare ones I can bring along. They fit into the two ports down on and near the oil cooler. Just thought I'd order a couple off ebay since they were so cheap - I've currently got two spares.

Corosith
16-09-2011, 11:28 AM
You don't need a sandwich plate (yeah, I bought one too), as there is already a stock oil cooler plate on the bottom of the block on which the filter screws onto, there are two bolts you can undo to install these adapters in.:)

Corosith
16-09-2011, 04:57 PM
I was actually talking about gauge connections, not oil coolers. Oil cooler would be best with a filter relocation kit & sandwich plate as another sandwich plate and the overall length of the oil filter will make it sit awfully low. I'll just explain it to you tonight.:)

Hi guys, will have further details in the next week or so, will attempt to plot a cruise map on google maps/whereis soon.

At this stage i think we will initially meet up in Blackwood at 11:30-12 ish and will essentially be a 'backwards' loop through the hills, roughly like the following in order:

Blackwood
Clarendon
Meadows
Paris Creek
Macclesfield
Flaxley
Mt. Barker
Littlehampton (possible stop/re-group point for lunch at the bakery)
Nairne
Brukunga
Woodside
Lobethal
Forest Range
Basket Range
Marble Hill
Cherryville
Montacute (detour via corkscrew road)
Castambul
Paracombe
Inglewood
Houghton
Vista

Potentially another stop point thrown in there. Only an initial route at this stage, welcome to suggestions from you guys to alter it!

It will probably be more than likely 'follow the leader' ;)

Test drove Sabeli's last night. I must say, his clutch is a little harder and feels more solid than mine. I don't think his is stock but I like it better... Overall SKR tune is not bad, Sabeli you should of upgraded the whole exhaust first before you did your tune.

Sabeli also test drove mine, which has my new tune in it @17-18psi (1.2-1.3bar) stable through all rev range. My guesstimate since my last dyno of 128-133, now maybe 135-138fwkw. In comparison to Sabeli, i thought mine rev'd more freely - but this is due to the mods. Upgrade exhaust Sabeli!!

What did you think Sabeli?

You guys can have a go at mine for the cruise.

I need to change the immobiliser code first then reflash it with Maccas basic flash, you may be able to help me on that as I am still green in that area. The 3-port is a Tactrix unit with a plug and play Mitsubishi connector.

I should really join up again with the Evo GSR club, then we could tag along with them on a few cruises, I think Odyssey, DamoMcTitz & wombat are members.

yeah no prob, easy. I have the grimm 3 port. should be easy to install.

Cool, sounds more like I won't be cruising then, went for a burn last Sunday anyway. Hey Rokku, I also have a decent pump bottle with(brand spankers) if you want to use that to pump the new gearbox fluid in, then you can just pump it in through the guard rather than gravity feeding it from the engine bay. The stupid setup I had when I last did the fluid created a hell mess.

I too had a syringe, it was a pain in the neck. The bottle I have you just pour all the gearbox fluid into it and use the handpump to push the fluid in, it also has a long hose with a curved metal neck on it so you can just hook it in the filler hole. You are both welcome to use it.

Super cheap sell them for around $25

1 litre, check out the thread on transmission oils and you'll find a few options there. All I know is when I changed my trans fluid at 50,000kms it looked like absolute gunk, something that is mirrored on the MPS forums with their first gearbox fluid change.

Sounds like we are doing car maintenance stuff on Sunday, might just have to postpone till the following weekend when more people are available - at last count there were only 3 people interested in cruising on Sunday.
