Hey everyone

Just got a autometer carbon boost gauge and I was thinking of hooking it up and mounting it right above the driver side vent and behind the pillar.

I know how to get the tpiece and vacuum cables setup, but no idea as to how to tap into the power lines as my electrical skills are sketchy to say the least. I'm assuming I need to tap into the circuit that powers the dash lights?

I've seen a thread from faux as to where to run it through the firewall. My concern is routing from the hole on the passenger side all the way to the area under the driverside vent .

Any tips in the install? I've seen a few pics from skyrex as he had it setup this way for awhile.

Nice! I was thinking similar but closer to the driver, howd u access the underneath of that panel to run the cabling through?

Did you get a mechanical or electrical gauge?

There's a panel under the steering wheel, which you can remove. Once remove, you will be able to see the underneath of the driveside vent. You can poke your wires through that way.

Nice! , hoping I can thread it through the firewall on that side. Would make things simpler.

Its not where you thread through the firewall, but you simply can't see where you are going without that panel off (not to mention you might not be able to reach there) Either way, its not hard to remove that panel if i remember correctly.

Had a look again today, I can see the access hole through the firewall behind the battery so thats sorted, decided that I'll be mounting it on the steering column near the fuel gauge. Measured everything up and nothing is blocked so all is well.

now its a question of running the tubing from the firewall to the steering column, doesnt seem to be any shortcuts.

That's how I did mine. Mine's electric though, so I only had to run the tubing to behind the center console/stereo and then run a single loom up to the steering wheel. I just ended up double-sided taping the gauge to the coloumn and it hasn't come off or vibrated in about 2 months now.

Easiest to just disassemble the centre section of the dash and remove the headunit/headunit chassis & ventilation controls, then you can easily route the vacuum hosing from the footwell, behind the centre console and up behind the steering column. Sounds daunting but you get very quick at it after doing it a few times. Just ask if you have any issues pulling stuff apart, most of us have been there, done that.

Sweet, thanks heaps guys makes everything a lot easier.

only one thing left to sort out and thats the electricals, ideally I would like the lights to come on when the dash lights come on but still lookin into which wire i need to tap into.

Nice! same gauge as me.
Is that cable from the gauge you got running down the door?
If you look between the end of the dash and where it meets the windscreen.
There is enough space for you to run it down there.
There should be another entry point there too from the firewall

Would look cleaner.

Is there a entry point on the driver side? Would be much neater , no sure of ease of acess

I think the best one is the one you've already spotted. Just use something small round and sharp to pierce through, like a metal cooking skewer.. then when you've found it on the inside, i just used Mr Stanley to cut a little hole in the deadner/crap under the carpet and run the tubing under there.

I T'd the tubing in on the manifold line, that way I could run the tubing along all the wiring loom at the top of the firewall (my tubing is black silicon) so it didn't stick out or look weird, 100mm black good quality zip-ties make it almost invisible in the engine bay. Your only issue there I guess is having enough tubing...

You could probably find a grommet on the drivers side with another loom but it'd be much harder work pulling stuff apart to get room..

Thanks for all the tips guys! had it installed in about 2hrs. Pics are up in my thread in the members ride section.

I also put the blue tube back in the yr noid to see If I can match up the readings.

Vacuum seems to range from -18 to -24 during various conditions, most of the time hovers around -20.

1st gear boost can't see it , too quick
2nd gear boost is around 10psi roughly.
3rd is about 12psi

The other gears dunno yet. Does this seem right? Pretty sure the blue tube on the yr noid is 1.1bar which should be approx 16psi?

I checked all connections and no leaks anywhere.

Update managed to get 14psi peak in 3rd on the way back from work.
