Having driven both, albeit only short drives, I have to say that IMO, the Mazda has too much power for FWD only. OK, the electrickery mitigates the torque steer and tyre shredding, but what's the point of having 190KW if the computer is going to shut it down all the time?

I found the 3MPS a bit too frantic for the road, hopping and lurching from bump to bump while the computer tried to stop me having an accident. The front suspension is either in need of more damping or more travel too - it bottomed-out quite fiercely a couple of times.

In comparison, the WRX just goes about its business, putting all its power down with little fuss. This makes it a better road car.

The track is a very different proposition though. The MPS would be more fun on the track and could use all its grunt with the nanny electronics turned off.

I prefer the looks of the MPS - especially the red ones! The new WRX fell a VERY long way out of the Ugly Tree and hit every branch on the way down. The original Impreza WRX is still the prettiest IMO.

totally agreed, the original rexy had the best body styling in my opinion. 2 thumbs up !
they have a 22b 2 door @ the volvo dealer at artarmon i drive past now and then....so tempted to test drive it.

yeh the 99 model of the original shape is pretty lush.. but i still quite like the current shape sedan (not the model tested here)

evo X rapes them both tho! :D
