Hey guys finally fitted my wheels, 16x8 +15 will fit with the right tyre combination, im running 195/50r16 and the rears just touches, the right tyres I wanted was 195/45r16 fedrals but none in australia and will touch down here in oz in 6 weeks, so was really desprate and I wasnt gonna pay $280 a pop for nangkangs, so with 16x8 +15 with 195/45r16 will be perfect.
Cheers, kris
How others said on the forum its not for the faint hearted still gonna roll and flare all the guards in the near future. Will post pics when I figure it out how to and when not using the iphone

You may be able to roll them, not flare them without a lot of trouble. You should be able to take off the plastic arches, roll the guard, then put the plastic bits back on. Will probably only give you a few mm though..

First of all, Nankang cost 280 a pop? You mean a set ya? If yes, that's dirt cheap already, otherwise you are ripped off hard. And the 195 is due to the x8? Otherwise, it's a serious downgrade of grip.

Can I fit a 16x7 +15 on a RColt that's not lowered?

you could fit 16x10 -50 on a colt thats not lowered, but why?
Ok kool. Cause I saw wheels for sale on eBay 16x7 +15. My RColt is not lowered so am tempted to buy.

I disagree... http://www.rcolt.com/showthread.php?4189-Tha-deal-is-done-it-s-on-the-way-to-SA.../page17
I've got King Springs and flared my rear guards by at least 30mm without taking off the rear plastic overfenders. I've also flared the front guards by about 15mm and didn't remove the plastic inner guard to do it. My thoughts after flaring my guards to fit a 16x7 +12 rim and the std 205/45-16 tyre is that you won't need to touch the front guards at all. There's enough room to fit it all in. Rokku has 16x8 +20 with the standard 205/45-16 tyre and his tyres rub on the back but nothing on the front.
The rear plastic overfenders are attached with double sided tape, 'christmas tree' clips and and clips along the inner meatl portion of the guard.
On the rears, get yourself a grinder to grind the plastic inner guard flush with the metal portion of the guard. Get a guard roller and roll the guard - it's piece of piss.
When we get some good weather down here I'll head up to Coro's house to get some photos of how I did it.
Rokku wants to do his guards so we'll do a photo progression while we do it.
Guard roller cost me $145: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Auto-Car-Fender-Roller-Lip-Reforming-Rolling-Tool-FP-/350472855314?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5199cf5f12
and free postage.

I have 16x7 +15 no worries lowered on Blitz coilovers, lots of scrubbing at first but after doing a home job on rolling the guards and cutting away at the plastics its ok, only big bumps in the road make that LIGHT scrubing sound

So yesterday I went every where I can that roll guards and flare, all off them declined me as they wernt confident in doing mine as no workshop has done them before. The amount of compliments I got yesterday about the stance was like "you should leave it how it is, looks like a really pissed off bulldog" haha, but back to the topic no one is willing to roll my guards and flare a little I would like to see pics of peoples guards flared and rolled will be sweet.
Correct me if im wrong heard theres another jdmst meet at castledine where ever that is on monday night.
Cheers, kris
Any chance of a sticky at the beginning of this thread with wheel sizes known and proven to fit and any other specifics for certain sizes? For example x x x size will fit - requires x profile tyre. x x x will fit - requires guards to be rolled etc.
I think it would be quite handy.
Also would you guys think 16 x 8 + 35 would rub?
odysseyesm
22-07-2011, 04:31 PM
16x8 +35 I reckon will rub.
If ur gunna stretch it'll help but will hit on full travel methinks.
As for rolling the rear guard - the key is to first grind off the little plastic clip at the top of the guard. When u put your fingers in and feel around the top of the wheel arch you'll feel the clip. The weather is Pretty good ATM so I can get some more shots of what I did.
I wouldn't roll the fronts until u put the wheels on as u might not have to touch it.

If that is the case how did these jokers get started in the first place, how did the first of any model of car manage to get done?? Sounds like they may not be insured against things like cracking your paintwork should it happen, probably cheaper to get your own gear as Odysseyesm has done.

Doing the guards on the Colt is easier than other cars going by the footage I've on pootube.
There's about 3 layers of steel that you need to work compared with 1 layer on most other cars I've seen rolled. What this means that is the whole of the guard can flex instead of just the small bend in most other cars.
The paint work cracks on other cars because they just turn this lip up so that it's flush up against the guard. The paint can't follow the tight radius of the bent metal and it cracks.
With the colt guard, as long as you roll the guard gradually and don't try to roll it in one go it'll be fine. If you try to roll the rears too much you'll get a crease starting to form at the edge of the plastic overfender more or less in line with the fuel filler on the left side and the corresponding position on the right side.
To do the Colt guard is a different method than what most places know how to do. So no baseball bats until you've done a couple and you'll what I mean.
I'm trying to organise my time to be able to get up to Coro's so he (& Rokku) can work his camera magic.
When you get back Coro?
I'm not really threadjacking... Once you roll the guards I reckon you'll get 16x8 +15 with 205/45-16 and be able to drop it on the deck with no probs. It'll only rub when you're right on full lock - it just buzzes on the inner guard at the bottom. Now mine have been on for a while I'll take some pictures of where it rubs.

I'm back! I had my Suzuki Gti's guards rolled at the rear due to scrubbing, they consist of two panels spot welded together, but like you mention, they we bent right back flush with the inner guard causing the paint to crack. Do you use a heat gun on the paintwork to make it more pliable?
odysseyesm
23-07-2011, 11:49 PM
Nope - no need cause the inner metal lip is ground away.
Then again I haven't looked under the plastic overfender but I doubt there's any cracked paint. You'll see what I mean when I show u.

yeah i know 4 different places wasnt confident enough but honestly my car doesnt rub as bad as it sounds with my tyre combo if i get the 195/45r16 it will be perfect but because i got 195/50 it rubs alittle, what i did cause im on holidays all my tools are at work i heated up a butterknife on the stove and just slide the knife on where its rubbing melted the plastic off where its rubbing easiyer then filling it away, and then i got a tip from a mate use tyre shine lol you cant hear it rub anymore but yeah surprising enough my car is not that bad when it comes to rubbing.
i will post up some more pics when i clean it

I honestly didnt exactly roll my guards... a better description is:
I HAMMERED THE F&*K OUT OF THEM!
Then used a blade/knife to neatly carve the plastic guards, you cant see anything from the outside, however the paint did all crack off and I need to re-paint to avoid rust.

Of course, I knew that...
Just making sure everyone is still awake. They appears to be supers?
Good seeing that even with +15 & springs there is still enough clearance giving spring have higher compression/rebound/overall articulation than coils.
Edit: Kstiffy - have you got more of a "profile" type pic of the wheels and how much they poke out past the guards? Keen to see what 47mm of poke looks like on our Colts. :)
