What would be the biggest engine to fit in a colt engine bay?

Feel free to add your favourite mutant motors

LOL 454 in an Acura... looks useful.
When I had my Shelby there were some guys with the 427 in them and they handle like a windscreen wiper.
But I spose for drags it'd be ok?

AWD Colt with 2JZ would scream. Maybe a RWD drift colt with the same engine?

Oooo, which Shelby was it??? You like horses don't you ;) ('stang? and Colt).

Looked like meticulous work to get that 454 into the acura, RWD conversion too.... unless they chopped the chassis?

I had a mate with a cobra replica and a 427 in it, fast in a straight line but handled like shit, he ended up selling it after only driving it for a few thousand kms (after spending nearly $80,000 on it).

It was a Shelby Cobra replica with a 302 Windsor. Built the shrouds and dash in CF with a titanium firewall. Loved building it.

Sounds familiar Coro... Although I didn't spend anywhere near 80k.
Once I built it, it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Pain in the arse when it was hot gettin sunburnt all the time. Good as a cruiser but shit as a daily.

You could literally watch the fuel needle move when the pedal was planted, it had many teething issues, regency were a pain to deal with regards to only being allowed one working side exit exhaust and having to keep the original restrictive ford carby. The engine was too heavy and with all the weight over the front wheels, it was always doomed to be a chronic understeerer. He sold it fo $30000 and bought a Turbo MR2, much more fun and practical.

Did you take one for a drive before ordering the kit? I can imagine being disappointed with the end product if I had one to compare it to. How long does it take to build one, I'll be buying one when I hit jackpot lol!

Saw this story of the man who built a V8 Trike in Perth on the WA 7.30 Report last night,

Then I thought about this thread and wondered what else can a hemi fit into...and I wasn't disappointed!!

Frogman Tim Cotterill Rocket 2 Trike - well worth watching, even if it is an oldie! ;)

Took me while to build mine. But then building a car in rented houses (I moved house 4 times during the build). Including building it up in a 2 bedroom unit with a 1 car garage isn't going to help the build process.
Of the guys I knew who were building them around the same time as me, one stands out. He built his car from scratch in about 4 months using an RB30T out of a VL. When he took it to West Wyalong for the annual Cobra Car Club meet his car was only beaten by a guy who had a 302 BOSS that ran on Alcohol. The BOSS engine spent its life in his drag boat and used to get dropped into the Shelby once a year.
Whereas the guy with the stock RB30T even dropped the stock Jatco 3 spd auto in with factory ECU and a big intercooler and whipped pretty much everyone - around 40 Shelbys from memory.
You can spend plenty on the build. It's easy to get caught up in bying bits and pieces. One guy bought and sold 6 brake upgrades before he fitted one lot to the car, he'd get one lot paid for and then he'd see something bigger and better. I actually did alright in the end, spent around $28k and sold it for $25k. Obviously that's without factoring the hours I spent building it - that's just the cost of bits. Some kits can be bought in stages from a 'Chassis with bits' to 'turnkey' stages. Expect to pay up to $80k depending on what engine and interior you want. You can get stupid with wheels, brakes, carbon fibre and chrome.
Best to stick with the 'basic kit', get it running then go from there otherwise it'll turn into a basket case. You can also save some money by buying someone elses basket case but then you don't know what they have or haven't done correctly during their build.
