Long time no post...gotta love holidays! 1 week off, 3,500km and 3 tanks of fuel! Lotsa great roads round Albury and up the Alpine roads! Pics to come soon. Had the long and boring trip of driving the 650kms from W'bool to Albury... on the way i went thru three different speed checks. Now i know these are renowned for being wrong or at least slightly off. However in my old car (97 lancer wagon), it was only 3-5kms under depending on which speed check i went thru. When i go thru them now in a brand new car it comes up with being 10kms under when travelling at 100kms and it was the same result for each one. Ive always thought the sense of speed was a bit whack in the colt, id travel on the highway at 120km and id be at the same speed as everyone else, even though most should be doing 110km which seemed weird. From memory i think someone else on the forums asked this same question, but alas i cant find the post. Im taking the car in for its 1500km service in about 45mins, so ill ask the them to check it out. Has anyone else had this problem?

And i doubt the service department of the dealer has any means to check and recalibrate. As bad as it sounded, (by traveling 10kmph lower than its actual speed) i find it a safety net against the countless speed cam around.

According to the dealer all new cars can be as much as 10% under with their speedo's. WHY? That he didn't tell me. Anyways, i figure it'll help me not get too many speeding fines! Although it did make me think that it may be done on purpose due to the age of most of the people who drive the RColts? Or should i just get off the crack and stop with the conspiracy theories?

Well, consider the average age of RColt is around 27-28.....i guess that's not really the reason then :p

I did the speedo check on the F3 today and my speedo was bang on the money. If there is an error with the speedo I would suggest it is only very slight.

According to my GPS device, my RColt speedo reads over by around 10%, which means that I'm actually doing 100kph when the speedo reads 110kph.

Most of the cars I've owned have had similar errors. My bike (XJR1300) also reads under by around 10%.

As for average owner's age, I'm afraid I just increased that considerably. :(

I'm not saying how old I am, but the first motor race I attended was a non-championship F1 race and included Jackie Stewart in a Tyrell, Pedro Rodriguez in a Yardley BRM, and Emerson Fittipaldi in a Lotus 78. Reine Wissell (sp?) raced a turbine-powered Lotus (banned or withdrawn soon after).

My first car was a Singer Chamois - basically a Hillman Imp with a flashy wooden dash and a coupe roofline. 875cc of raw power!

You saw a Lotus 78 (1977) racing in the flesh......You are a very lucky person. This car changed the face of F1 forever. The Americans still use this type of racing car design today!
