Daihatsu COpen is known as one of the cheapest convertible around. Pity that it didn't do very well in australia. However, i'm glad to find out that a new version is coming out and its looking good. More agressive.

Personally, i always liked COpen for its smallish convertible idea. Pity i ain't rich enough to have one as daily :p

My partner used to own a Copen. It was a fun car to drive! You couldn't park anywhere without somebody walking up to you immediately, and asking you questions about it ( It was de-badged!). She had the top of the line model, with leather interior and heated seats!! She would buy another one in a heart beat, but alas, Daihatsu is no more in Aust.

So, hows the quality of the COpen?? I'm always wonder why the daihutsu isn't selling in Aus?

In a word, exceptional. Daihatsu is a subsidary of Toyota, as Lexus is. Speaking of Lexus, the metal folding roof technology of the Lexus SC430, is used in the Copen as well. The Copen is built in it's own factory in Japan, where they are apparently hand assembled, on a slower than normal production line!I have nothing but praise for these cars. The only negative mark against them is that they only have room for 2 people and nothing else.Forget trying to use it as a daily driver, unless you're single! :)

Daihatsu left the Australian market not that long ago. They apparently could no longer compete on price, against the likes of the Korean, Spanish, etc built cars,as all of their cars are Made In Japan. Also, it made more financial sense for Toyota to pull the plug,as sales were just about non-existent. In the near future,Toyota will release rebadged Daihatsu cars onto the Aust market, but unfortunately, the Copen will not be one of them.:(
