hey guys has anyone ever thought of putting some subs into the plastic covering on the boot hatch? its a big area and with some dynamat and some sealing i think it would work out quiet nice, and i would have something to take to shows with me...

what do yall think?

One problem you will have is it will make the Tailgate very Heavy, and Probably wont stay up when you open it...

I would question the strength of the plastic for mounting subwoofers, you really need a solid surface to mount them in otherwise the plastic will pump back and forth when the tailgate area is pressurised by the subwoofer. Might get awat with some 6x9's in there but I would be more likely to used the spare wheel well for the sub to sit into, much like Macca's install. If you are really pushed for room, you could always mount a couple of those flat subwoofer/amp setups underneath the front seats, Infinity make a quality version of these.

To add on what other's had already stated, even if you can mount it there, don't you think there's gonna be rattling issues when a sub's meant to pound? I would go with Macca's sub design :)

well i aready have a 8 inch under the passanger seat.. the driver seat will make room for the amp to power my speakers.. well i was gonna rebuild the lid itself and put a slimline pioneer into it with 1000watts.. they dont seem to heavy..

When it comes to audio it's all about compromise. So the boot doesn't stay up? Who cares. My last 3 cars I haven't been able to get the jack OR the spare tyre out because of audio gear. My last car I sold the spare wheel and used the money for a 1.5farad cap that went in the well.
But I'm assuming your doing it for space so you can still use the boot. In this case it's a bad idea. If not straight away, eventually the struts will go under the extra weight. Much like Commodores with aftermarket spoilers. Also you need to run a LOT of unnecassary wire to go up and over the c pillar. Also if your going to go to the trouble of dynamat and bracing why don't you take off the plastic cover and replace it with a fibrglass one and uprating the struts? Or replace them pnuematic actuators so it opens itself? Coz that won't dent when it hits the roller door in your shed.
Also don't forget the space under your rear seat. It fits amps nicely and with the roll and tumble seat it's easy access for tuning. Leaves space for dual 10's under the front seat. I'm going single 12" but with the child seats in it leaves little room under the 3 point harness.
