Leading on from Macca's LED maplight conversion, for those less adventurous with electronics you can buy high intesity direct replacment LED festoon globes for your map lights from Jaycar Electronics. Advantage being they are very easy to swap over, have greater light spread, are much brighter than the OEM items and they go forever. Another thing I forgot to mention is that you may have to order the normal LED festoons from the online back catalogue.

Here's a few of them: 2 LED high intensity festoon globe, 20,000 hr life, part no. ZD-0484, $12.95 ea

8 LED 360 degree high intensity festoon globe, part no. ZD-0481, $16.95

2 normal LED festoons, part no.,KC-5354 $4.95ea

I bought a set of HID 5000k bulbs from ebay for $12. I had to stick my head out the window with a torch to see where I was going and after 3 hours night driving the glass in them melted and they bent like banana's and shone straight down at the ground. And I STILL couldn't see!

Mind you there are some genuine bargains. I bought a Lanzar amp for $32 and it ran SOOOOOOOO hard. Sold it to my cousin for $120.

don't mean to hijack thread, but if anyone wants LED bulbs for your house let me know.. i sell every type known to man... from down lights to fluro tube style... SAVE massively on your power bills

You can get them from bunnings but the quality isn't great and they won't offer a 5 year warranty like my ones.

I also got the wedge LED for my healights from ebay for around $2. The automotive LED's (12Volt) are very cheap out of China

The JAYCAR ones are rip off in my opinion and that price is each as well... i went in there frist to check out prices... when i saw their prices, i walked out thinking to myself .... "ebay"!!!!!!

...or if you have an ebay account, this could be going overboard, but certainly cheap!http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2-Car-Interior-Dome-16-SMD-LED-Festoon-Bulb-Light-31mm-/200563811478?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2eb288e496

So cheap I had to buy a set! I'll give you a review when they arrive. Now if I can only find a cheap Ralliart sticker for my bonnet vent.

yepppp the STOCK FESTOON LIGHT IS 31 MM. The one in the ebay link is like 32mm and slightly too fat to fit !!! mthrfcker ...need to modify it slightly.

i did earth it and i am now seeing stars... very fcking bright.

so DON'T buy the one in that link .. he did have positive feedback for his sales of that bulb so most likely other cars don't have such a tight fitting harness for the bulb like the colt which can only take EXACTLY 31mm bulbs.

I bought one of the eBay festoons with 16 SMDs, and with a little shoving, fits in nicely but have to watch the polarity ("08 no sunglasses holder)

Quite chuffed with the result, makes the cabin icey cool, still operates the same as the old bulbs in regards to fading out after unlock & brighter light when door is opened. :)
