Anyone that is as mad as I am with the cars exterior with experience with Meguiar's, Mother's, Zymol, etc waxes?

All of them claim to be the best and Zymol costs a bomb for the car wax. I've tried Mothers but I'm not entirely too happy. Doesn't bead off water enough or I could be using the wrong technique to apply it.

How about waxes? I've still got a lot of Mother's California Gold Carnauba Wax paste left. I'd like to try Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax paste...but I can't possibly have two brands of wax on my hand.

I have been using Meguirs products for a very long period of time, and will be doing so into the future. Good product without a huge price tag. Zymol is probably the best out there, but it isn't cheap...

hey gavin,

i use meguiars carnuba wax but its a 3 step process.. after having washed and dried the car -
1st i apply the meguiars paint cleaner (u shouldn't use this too frequently - every 6 months or so)
2nd meguiars crystal polish or something
3rd carnuba wax

its takes a good few hours to do the numerous applications but worth it.. last time i did it would've been at least six months ago and i still get decent beading

i'm not sure what the Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax paste you're talking about is like but i use this 3 step process and it works for me..

The NXT Tech Wax is their synthetic wax. Apparently people say the synthetic ones work better because it bonds to the paint surface. I wanna make it a habit to wax on a monthly basis to protect the paint. I'm really keen on trying out Zymol but it costs so much, was hoping someone could here have tried it to give me their 2 cents.

Zymol is a much better wax, and hence it costs a tonne more...........the results (if done correctly) are also heaps better than using megs:) (not to say megs is bad in anyway)

i used NXT for a while, but found it didn'tlast too long, especially for a synthetic wax.....i then used zymol's titanium wax and the finish of the car is just light years ahead in terms of clarity, depth, wetness, beading etc..:)

all zymol waxes are carnuaba based, and generally, is best used for car's that are garaged, since carnuaba, although providing a nice finish, can diminish quite quickly........i.e durability can be an issue......

i guess it depends on what u are after?.....if u want a nice warm finish, carnuabas are definitely the way to go - but u will need to apply them more regularly........

if your after a bit more durability, try a synthic based wax (sealant) - the good ones can give very similar results to carnuaba....a good synthetic based sealant brand is Zaino:)

have you ever thought about getting your car professionally detailed or even talking to a professional regarding what products best suit your needs?

since you are in melbourne, i can recommend someone who is highly regarded among detailing professionals :) .........he is very helpful, and carries a good range of quality products..........lemme know;)

Cheers,
Brendan

For many years back in the UK I used a product called 'Mer', which was a German liquid polish developed for fighter aircraft (apparently). It was extremely easy to apply and polish off, removed flies effortlessly, gave a very good shine, lasted well, could be used on a wet car and on any surface including plastics.

I have tried but failed to locate a supplier in Australia. If anybody has seen it here I'd appreciate hearing where.
