Anyone looked into getting an aftermarket cruise control unit fitted to their Colt?
I was wondering whether you could get a cruise unit from a Colt to modify (if necessary) and fit, but would hate to think about aftermarket cost of something like that. That is if any of the Colts actually have Cruise.

dont know if the euros did, but they also have a 6spd over there and that is probably better gear'd for cruise than a high fifth like we have.

Get in contact with Autron Australia. They manufacture many OEM cruise controls.

Sorry to dig this fossil up, but has anyone followed through with a cruise control unit?
If not I may be the guinea pig...
I honestly thought I could do without the cruise, but I must admit, I am missing it...

It cost me $750.00 and it is aftermarket,"AUSCRUISE by Autron" if anyone is interested I have the fitters details.
It has a couple of nice features, such as, when in cruise mode, it puts the throttle into idle when the clutch is depressed then after you shift up or down it resumes automaticaly. It also has an overspeed alarm you can set if you are not using cruise. Maybe these features are standard on other brands too, not sure.
I was hoping to spend $250-350...

There lies your problem, unless you are going to do the wiring yourself. A 'GOOD' cruise unit costs about that without labor for fitting, and the job is fairly intensive as you need to pull apart a bit of the dash and wheels for fitting. Be advised, you need to remove fuses, and check your airbag has been disengaged, personally, I wouldnt risk doing it yourself.

can it be mounted somewhere else apart from that silly location on the wheel?

Well, it IS a wheel mounted cruise control. Where were you thinking? the roof lining? Seriously though, I get what your saying because it does look a little weird and clumsy, but you get very used to it, plus we actually have an odd shaped wheel to fit cruise, and the location in that thread believe it or not is the best place.
You 'can' go one of those stalk mounted cruise control's which look like an after thought, but in my experience fitting 100's of cruise control systmes for customers, I wouldnt touch one with a barge pole, and if I had a customer with an R-colt that insisted on having it, I'd get them to sign a waiver on the cruise, cos those stalk mounted things are rubbish! They are fragile, they dont last well, they break, they simply dont work, the wiring is cheap and nasty internally... I just wouldnt fit it to a car.

i agree, the stalk ones suck...
hey mccoy, so you arranged for the fitting of that cruise control right?? The $750 included the fitting or just the part, i am thinking of getting one put in, want to know how much cash all up i am gonna be missing for it!

I had a stalk unit fitted by the dealer when I bought the car. It works great, no probs at all, perfect for freeway (F3) driving. It is supposedly the same one that they fit to the tritons.
And more likely the same one that is fitted to the Lancer's.

Also guys the cheaper units work by a sensor on the driveshaft for speed, and a vacume controled deviced attached to the throttle body/ accellorator cable.
Remember we DO NOT have a accellorator cable, or any moving part on the outside of our throttle body, so we can really only fit the more expencive items, that will also work with canbus.

Bump Up.
Did over 3000kms down to melb last weekend. No cruise control is a killer.
has anyone else installed cruise control yet?

Yes a select few have fitted it. There is not many places that sell a canbus capable unit.
Your looking around $800 fitted.
I have had my colt 3 years and drive an hour to work I don't find CC that big a deal.

Have Autron fitted to our Ralliart new sept 2009,love the cruise, have used Command infa red key pad on steering wheel in our other colt, prefer Command system,it doesnt surge and engages smoother. I personally love Cc,i find it relaxing on long drives.
