I have a query about our coltR ,how come it has 2 cat system ? and if i upgrade to 2.5' system after the first cat
and remove the second cat because the oxygen sensor is sit just before the second cat, therefore ,there shouldnt have any problem with the system i will be doing it on thursday ,straight through system witout resinator and just fit a lukey ultra flow straight through muffler, and it cost $ 400 mild steel mandrel bent system, but the only concern is whether i should remove the second cat because i think that could void the warranty of my coltR if its just have one cat left ? technically it could even gain more power to remove the second cat but manufacturer could say this could damage your engine and void my 5-10yrs warranty , anyone of you can give me some idea please ?
Thanks !

not a good idea to remove any of the cats. the first cat removes a certain number of toxins from the exhaust and the second cat removes the others. if you remove either one and do not replace it with something else, you will be letting toxins into the air and i believe the penalty from the epa (if you get caught) is 10k atm. just be careful what you do whitehorse.

Chipokae is correct, there is a large fine for having no cat, but leaving one cat will be fine, especially on our inconspicuous cars.
BTW, having only one cat will not damage your engine, they are idiots if they tell you that. Enough said.

Tasmania doesn't have an EPA ( Environmental Protection Agency ).
The probable reasons for the 2 cat set up is to have the classification of a LEV ( Low Emmissions Vehicle ), and, that the Ralliart Colt complies to Euro IV emissions standards, which is mandatory for vehicles manufactured from 2006 onwards in Aust.

and with the warranty question, i can answer that as i have asked before. The dealers answer to me was, that anything you change or modify out on the car is thus not warranted and associated parts become void as well. So my example to you is, you have changed your springs but not your shocks, if your shocks fail, mitsy will not replace them under warranty as you have made them fail by changing the springs. all other parts and warranty still apply, but then theres the loop-hole that it is up to the dealership / service centre as to what they think will void / not void the warranty. So in regards the the exhaust, if the turbo or the ( touch wood ) engine fails, and they can prove it was from your after market exhaust....they dont have to warrant any engine or turbo repairs for you...

well if you say that, just interchange parts which aren't stardard with the original parts before you put the car in for a repair. during that period you have mods on your car all you need to do is get a certified mech who can sign for interval servieces!

I agree with steve on this one if the dealership can get out of a warranty claim they will if the Exhaust system was a bolt on design.I know it would be apain to replace everytime the car would have to go back to dealership but would be worth not getting hassled for having aftermarket parts onit well worth the extra money having it designed that way.
