I'm not too good with describing the parts of the engine bay so here is a cropped picture. Looks like a heap of rust to me... is that "normal"

Isn't it the exhaust manifold? but yes, that's normal.

exhaust manifolds are on na cars...
turbo manifold, turbo, dump pipe, cat, exit pipe

i tink its normal....saw that rust wen i view the rcolt in the sg showroom.

Yes this corrosion is normal as the Exhaust Manifold is cast iron and it gets extreamly hot it has no protection against corrosion. Don't worry about this all cars with Cast Iron Exhaust manifolds suffer this discoloration.
It will not rust away in the cars lifetime and most likely not in your lifetime some old Model T Ford Manifolds are still as good as the day were made maybe a mm or 2 thinner but still ok.
Check the bolts that hold the silver heat shield to the Exhaust Manifold if they are lose get the dealer to tighten them. Don't do it yourself as if the bolts have been weakened by the heat they might snap then you have a problem.
