Ok,
This one has me a bit stumped - we went to change the oil and oil filter on the weekend and noticed that the Oil Filter part number currently on the car was
MZ690115
However, reading through the forums, I notice that its been said that the oil filter part number has been given as
MD136466
I rang up North Shore Mistubishi and asked him what oil filter I should get for the R Colt and he said their servicing department usually puts the MZ690115 on the cars. He hadn't heard of the MD136466 but looked it up and found that he had them in stock
The cost of the MZ690115 was around $12 and the MD136466 was around $18
So a) what should we be using? b) considering that mine already had the MZ690115 on it, is there any advantage in buying the more expensive MD136466?

Thanks,
Richard

I can verify that the oil filter that come stock in our car, is MD 136466. That cheaper one might be a cost cutting thing for the dealers. But as far as i know, we can also use the Evo's filter that apparently, is shorter than ours. Hence....maybe that cheaper one is for evos???

So, question a) if you want to play it safe, use back the MD 136466.
and question b) i don't think you will see any difference. But obviously a good oil filter means a better condition engine in future...which in this case, i have no idea which one's better.

g'day mate,

when i originally went to stock up on oil filters for my rcolt, the guy at the parts dept came back with THREE diff oil filters. so then he went to check with one of the mechanics and they said you can use any of them, so i picked one and off i went. later when i got home i thought i'd check the invoice from my previous service to check the oil filter model number, which was diff - so i went back to the service dept and changed it over..

so i'm just using the same model that the mitsu mechanics used - will check tonight which one i've got and i'll let you know!

Hey Ozdick,
I can answer this for you as i, well can.
115 is the standard generic colt filter,
466 is the ralliart version / replacement.
im not 100% but id say that the 466 is also the same as the evo one, i changed mine on the weekend, and it is half the size of the 115. fits up perfect and have had no probs with it.
BUT, one thing i have noticed, i run full synthetic and in my old supra id put it in and the oil would be amber and come out 10 thou kilometres later the same colour. I have started using it in the colt, put it in amber 7 thou kilometres ago and it has come out black. Either the old 115 filter isnt the best or there was alot of gunk that the oil has picked up and needed to be removed.
i have changed the filter and oil and we'll see how we go...
hope that helps.

Have you changed the air filter on the RC?
The oil shouldn't be black on such a newish engine, and, there shouldn't be any accumulation of 'gunk', if you change the oil and filter every 5000km.
Usually, if the oil is black on a newish engine after 5000km,your air filter is not doing it's job,or/and, the oil is substandard, or you live in a very dusty environment.

Also, use only the oil filter (by part number) that the car came with from the factory.Anything else would not be satisfactory.

See that's the dilemna I'm in here.
I bought the RColt as a demo model. The dealer had filled in the service book as already having done the 1st 5000km oil service.

The 115 is the oil filter that was on the car when I bought it. So either it came with that or they put it on there with the service..
All things considered, it was someone at Mitsubishi who put the 115 oil filter on my car.
Now the car hasn't had a problem, so should I continue to use the same one that the car with when I bought it from Mitsubishi? Or go for the slightly more expensive 466?
Ah decisions, decisions ;)

Use the MD136466 (only), which according to lovecolt is the standard factory issued oil filter for our Ralliart Colts.

If what Steve-b said is true, you better start buying the real RColt filter, which is the 466. Either way, its only 5 bucks more. Definitely worth for the peace of mind. But as said, i got the 466 from day 1 of owning the car.

I think the reason that the dealer's service depatments use the 'standard' Colt oil filters, is that rather than keeping the Ralliart Colt oil filter in stock, they use the closest filter they have in stock. Remember, there aren't many RC's out there, and it costs them $$ to have our oil filters sitting on the shelf. Parts departments re-order mainly high turnover parts.RC oil filters would be an order in part for them.
