hi guys,

I want to change the exhaust but don't want to do a cat back... i just want a little bit of noise. About a month ago i took the rear muffler off and took it for a spin and it didn't make much more noise at all.

Don't get me wrong i don't it loud i just want a nice note.

I suppose my question is whats the cheapest way to get a 'note' out of her? Not interested in HP increase just a note!!!

Get a cheap ebay straight through muffler and when getting it fitted get the shop to remove a cat and a resonator...

I reckon the best (& prolly cheapest) way is to get the rear muffler replaced with a straight thru jobbie by cutting the stock pipe where it gets necked down just in front of the rear axle.
You'd get a good sound and a decrease in restriction methinks.

When you stick your head under you'll what bit I'm talking about. I got quoted around $300 depending on what muffler you get.

The stock sound is actually OK, just low volume... Why not just chop the resonator out?

Replace centre muffler with 18in 2 1/4 spiral louvred hotdog. Should cost no more than 120 to 140 fitted. Good sound and take's bark out leaving a clean note

i talked to mitsuman but still not too clear on the rpw zorst. so on the catback system i can choose a lukey or magnaflow and with either of these do they offer the cannon? cause i've seen the magnaflow pictures and videos from here and i dont really like the look, they aint big enough lol. its not so hard to have a great looking canon without jeopardising anything else is it?

If you can't make up your mind whether a straight through pipe from the resonator will be too loud or not, just get the original muffler section cut and flanged at the resonator and get a straight through pipe made up that will also come off the same flange. Then you can wack on whatever rear section that takes your fancy.

just run a straight pipe through to the rear muffler. Then for that just pick your poison. Lots to choose from

i'm doing that eventually. Removing the resonator and poking holes in the cat with a broom handle. After the adap install of course

I just had my exhaust done, oval JUN B.L in 2.5 in, taken before the bottle neck in the factory exhaust.. Had before and after dyno's done for the hell of it, and what do ya know...i've picked up 4 kilowatts and few extra nm's of torque for my trouble! And the added bonus of no boost drop. Cost about $450 for muffler, tip, stainless pipe from Exhaust Technology. Result is quiet idle, but fantastic deep exhaust note when it hits boost, and its free'd up the engine nicely. Wanted to go for a Magnaflow muffler, but mark recommended against this because the internal bore and design of the muffler is suited to larger more powerful engines with different exhaust flow characteristics. The JUN B.L is perfect as it necks down slightly in the inner chamber, not making it drony, but is still a straight through design.

Mark, who made the exhaust, said unless your going nuts on aftermarket goodies like turbo's, i/c's etc, no real point in changing the factory system past that point, as the 2 1/4 factory pipe is a reasoanble size. Size of the factory exhaust housing doesn't really warrant something much larger than that.

Hmm so factory is good eh. But eventually don't we all want to go down the crazy route? I mean bigger turbo and fmic isn't that crazy is it?

removing cener muffler makes next to no difference. ive been through 3 exhaust systems and on this one i dont have a center muffler or second cat and its still quiet

How much difference would putting a straight pipe instead of the center muffler and cat make to the performance of the car?

I'm thinking of deleting the center muffler and cat, and changing the rear muffler to a 2.5" varex. Is the limiting factor here still the dump pipe?

I believe the stock dump still narrows to the stock downpipe, so even if you go from the dump there's still some limiting factors...

Only going an entire system will open her up... I'm loving mine and it need not be expensive...

hmmm, Do you (or anyone here) have a before and after kw @ wheels difference both after just changing the dump pipe only, and after changing the dump pipe back?

I don't think one person here has done a dump alone... Usually its everything but the dump...

Sounds like someone attempting the "Pounder" from Maccas :D

so i had the rear muffler removed today for a 2 1/4 pipe. Sounds great actually. I am really happy with the note! I was suprised to see when the muffler guy showed me the part where the original exhaust goes into a 1.75 inch pipe just before the rear axle beam. Must be very restrictive. So i had that removed as well.

I had mine running the same for a while - pops and crackles nicely... Thank god for 2 cats and restricitive stock piping or it would have been unbarable. Going back to one center resonator on new system.
