Yes

But the stock sparkies are of heat range 7 if not wrong.

Or even 6, according to the original post. It doesn't make sense to me that he would switch over to a spark plug with a colder heat rating. No idea what this "long reach type" means either. Is there an advantage to the spark being started further into the combustion chamber?

Macca

Long reach is a generic spark plug term

you see in my first post they stock ones are long reach. Just a fitment thing. there is a fair distance from the head to chamber.

i have replaced mine sparkz at 60,000km...they are ILZFR6C-K, that is what i pulled out of the block...and replaced them with...think they were just under 100$ from auto one...went to 5 shops no one stocks em...
auto one had em in stock because they had someone come in wit an rcolt b4..so they kept one on the shelf

Zadok

Am I correct in believing that these spark plugs are not needed to be replaced till 100,000 km? If it's of any benefit to change them earlier I'd be keen to do it though.

Ayu452

i like to stagger my replacement parts...so i don't get one big lump sum at 100k km...
plus our car runs very rich...so i thought i replace em earlier...i gave them a clean at 50,000km...
there is no hurt changin it earlier...its only a guideline service manual...i hope to keep the car along time, possibly turn it into a full track car, if i got $$...so i trying to look after it best i can

Are these the ones for our colt? Linkie... (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NGK-IRIDIUM-SPARK-PLUG-LZFR6AI-LZFR6A-I-Stock-No-3656-/290308541816?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4397bccd78#ht_2282wt_905) That's 41 GBP delivered...

And how hard/easy are they to swap out? Any tricks?

Macca
09-12-2010, 10:36 AM
Nope thats not them.

Part number for them is at the start of this thread.

Tricks they are easy as, Remove coil, get spark plug socket with the rubber in the end to hold the plug, and a fuck off long extension

Should only need to replace Iridium plugs at 100,000, won't hurt to replace earlier though.

The heat range of a plug relates to how much heat is held in the plug tip to aid combustion. If it's a slow revving motor then the plugs tend to have a 'hotter' rating.
If it's a fast revving turbo or two stroke then the plugs will have a 'colder' rating, meaning that they transfer more heat into the head, lower the temp of the plug tip and reduce the likelyhood of melting a hole in the piston or knocking from pre-ignition of the fuel mixture like a diesel.
In a fourstroke car engine you'd really need to be racing the car all the time to worry about that I reckon.

That's what I remember from my bike racing days anyways....

Hey guys found this link on ebay but part numbers dont match up with the ones posted in the first/subsequent threads (IZFR6C-K)...will they fit??

Or should I go with the safe bet? (although almost double the price)

black ice....i think the second link is the one you need.

anyway, was looking around for other alternative spark plugs to suit the rcolt, and came across the Denso Iridium (YKH20Y). Has anyone used this specific plug for their colt before? it was quite difficult to get the suitable part number, but I managed to find this: http://www.globaldenso.com/cgi-bin/global/plug/euro/4w/4w-plug.cgi?action=search&filename=4w-58.txt

the gap seems correct at 0.8mm too. ebay has them for about AUD$22 each.

Hi guys, I have been using NGK Iridium LFR7AIX which has similar specs as the stock ILZFR6 but is colder at 7 heat range. Changed em every 40,000km. Googling shows that it is a stock part no. for WRX/STI/Legacy so should be pretty easy to find from dealers.
