View Full Version : Husky's 2nd Rcolt

husky510
27-04-2010, 05:06 PM
Here is my 2nd Rcolt. Just lowered it and put some fat tyres on it... just like my white one i had. I put 225/50/16 on the rear and 205/50/16 on the front... looks so much better than the piddly little roller skate 205/45's... really fills the gaurds and looks alot tougher... esspecially from the rear!!!! he he!!!

I also made a 'version R' sticker on my vinyl cutter!!!

Macca
27-04-2010, 06:11 PM
Are you able to cut stickers for us cheap ;)

Oh also looking good

interesting with the tyres are there any adverse affects with speed reading or ABS issues with 2 different rolling diameters?

husky510
27-04-2010, 06:27 PM
yeah.. can cut any thing you like!!!

No problems with the tyres as far as i am aware.. i am sure the speedo is out but i think i can adjust to that without any hassles

alba
27-04-2010, 06:33 PM
i was thinking more along the lines of the rear having such a large footprint on the road, causing understeer

looks really tough though :)

Macca
27-04-2010, 06:48 PM
how can you adjust the speedo?

Zadok
27-04-2010, 06:56 PM
I don't think he means actually adjusting the speedo Macca, but rather know that when it reads 100km/h he's actually doing 102km/h or whatever it works out to be :). Also, I put 215/45r16's on my colt (but with enkei 16x7 rims) for similar reasons Husky, just looks much nicer with more rubber than the stock bicycle wheel look of the 205/45's in my opinion.

husky510
27-04-2010, 09:03 PM
they probably do, but very rare, and very expensive...

bunnybash
27-04-2010, 11:23 PM
what tyres are they? i figure if you use them, they have to be good stuff, so just wondering what i need to purchase next!!

husky510
27-04-2010, 11:45 PM
actually, they are just 2nd hand tyres for now.... i use 2nd hand to try out sizes and when i am happy i buy new ones. I will be buying some Federal RSR's (semi slick)'s.

Zadok
28-04-2010, 01:07 AM
Hey mate, do you have any idea on what the RSR's would be like in comparison to the Kumho KU36's? I've got the KU36's (215/45/r16) and have been very happy with them for only $133 a corner. Cheers.

husky510
28-04-2010, 10:38 AM
i would say they are comparative, but the fed's are alot dearer. a 205/45/16 is about $215 a corner. So the RSR may be a better quality. Not sure really, don't know much about the Kumho's.

Zadok
28-04-2010, 01:01 PM
Ahh ok cheers mate. From what I can gather the Federals would provide good grip levels with a wear rating of 140 (compared to the 180 of the KU36), however that may be offset by the slightly wider KU36 (215/45 vs 205/45) likely resulting in very similar grip levels (obviously depends greatly on compound etc, but both seem to be pretty grippy compounds). I think you would find the Federals to have a little less sidewall flex though being a slightly lower profile (seeing as they are only 205 wide), however ride comfort may be slightly reduced (as well as looking more like a bike tyre being such a low profile in my opinion :)). At the end of the day I'll continue using the KU36's as they are so much cheaper, and for a uni student like myself that's a good thing :D. Anyway that's my tyre theory crafting for today (which isn't based on any actual experience with Federal tyres at all lol).

Looking good mate.. and am curiously anticipating your next modifying move, given your previous endeavours ;)

Hey what springs did you use?

husky510
28-04-2010, 01:59 PM
i used Kings... they are local and easily obtainable... not my preference, but they will do.

odysseyesm

Option One has the Federal RSR's 205/45-16 @ $198 a corner. That's via mail order though, maybe more if they fit and balance as well? I was stalking to them this afternoon about the various tyres, different sizes etc. He (Storm?) mentioned about the difference sidewall stiffness etc.
He also mentioned that he reckons (from experience - used to own an RColt) the Federal 595SS and the Kumho KU31 have better grip in the wet compared to the RSR & KU36, cheaper too.

Macca
28-04-2010, 10:50 PM
KU31's have better wet performance that 36's but in the dry the 36's smash the 31's I have used both.

husky510
28-04-2010, 11:14 PM
yes the semi slicks would not perform well in the wet.. but in the dry.. different story

polyphonic
02-05-2010, 09:25 PM
I use ku36's on the mondeo and have been very impressed, I know most of the XR5 blokes are running these Tyre's now and are best bang for buck

Yeah, I'll continue using the KU36's for the life of my car. Awesome tyre, and cheap to boot.

Nice mate. I found with the KU36's on the standard rims that at 36 psi they squirmed around a little bit under very hard braking, however I simply increased the pressure to about 40psi and it did fix the problem. I now run 38psi front, 36psi rear on 16x7" rims and it's fantastic :D

husky510
11-05-2010, 11:07 PM
yeah every car that comes into my shop gets 40psi

07-09-2010, 07:17 PM
what size tyres you running husky?

husky510
07-09-2010, 07:38 PM
I 'was' running 225/50/16 on the rear and 205/55/16 on the front.. which definitely makes it look very very tuff... but before i got rid of the tyre shop i went back to the 205/45/16 that originally came with tthe car to keep it in spec... but in hindsight i should have left it as before...Anyway, When i get the 08 rims i am going to the bigger tyres again... they make such a difference in looks without comprimising the handling...

ColtVerR
07-09-2010, 09:43 PM
I used to run with 215 profile using 16 inch rims...with Hankook RS2s until I swapped for Fed RSR
together with 5mm spacer front and 10mm spacer rear

running 225 at the back does cause you some understeering right??

Nice setup! Keep on experimenting ya?

autopro

i did mine in record time, couldnt believe how easy it was.... had to drill new holes in the standard brackets, that was the hardest bit i think.

ps: mine is the 7inch without satnav, still got bluetooth and all that.

the only bad comment i have is that the mic on the bluetooth is a bit dodge and when you switch between music and phone the volume on the music is too loud... liek you end the phoen call and then the music deafens you.

Got the dump pipe on today finished and welded on. So its the dump with a 2.5 (NO cats) into ELEGNT's old 2.5 system with a 2.5 canon on the rear.

The difference in power is excellent. Power surge is great and top end is very very good... but one thing i have noticed which i particularly like is changing from 1st to 2nd gear.... The 'Lag' has really been reduced quite significantly. It is quite enjoyable snatching gears form 1st to 2nd which i always thought was very annoying... almost like the gearing was wrong. No complaints now!!!

One downside.. the exhaust is a little dronier now esspecially through the rev range. I am running no cats at the moment.... so when i fit the cat I am hoping it will take the edge off it a little .

Will have to book in with Nick at Neil Lowe Motorsport to have the ECU reflashed again to get the maximum out of the car.

husky510
13-09-2011, 04:55 PM
yeah maybe Steve, Thats why i am hoping the cat will help... but in saying that, it sounds ok and its not really 'loud' but was just noticeable that the db's had gone up a fraction. Too tell you the truth,i could live it.. but it would be nice if the cat just helps a little.

Well after having the dump on for a week the performance gain is incredible.... it hammers... epecially top end.. it screams to 6,500 grand.... and pulls very hard to 6,500. Before I was short shifting at 5,800... but now power is there to at least 6,500... it is awesome! Love it!

So without the cat there, and no reflash, I assume the p0421 code with check engine light just comes on, but doesn't affect power output, simply just the warning about the difference in temp between the two sensors?

+2 on the photo. It's fun experimenting with lighting and stuff at night, you might take about 100 shots, but usually there is one or 2 pearlers hidden amongst the bad ones.

on my PC it is very sharp... when i load it up to the forum it is a ugly as sin!! From my camera its about 11MB. Then i go to microsoft office 2010 and and resize it to around 120kb to make it user friendly for the RColt.com load up... but it comes out very dodgey

Start up a Photobucket acct and upload the full-size version onto there then put the link in ur RColt posts.
Dunno if there's a better way but it works for me.

Then i go to microsoft office 2010 and and resize it...There's the problem with the quality man. I have found since using PS3 and 5, most "generic" imaging apps namely ms paint, the old ms photodraw 2000, irfanview, all flatten and compress the hell out of the quality. If you resize it to say, no bigger than 1000px on the longest side it will be small enough for the upload to a filehosting site then you can link to rcolt.
The only issue then is said filehosting sites also fiddle with the compression of the pics to save on their space to store the file, so it gets compressed even more.
Worst for it atm is Facebook, the colour is still passable, but pics go mega blockish once uploaded...
