Never experienced an empty fuel tank before, but yesterday I was close in the rcolt. I keep an eye on my mileage all the time so I know roughly when to hit the bowser to avoid a dry tank (usually 550km).

Was driving around and giving it a poke, and the fuel cut at 3000rpm in 2nd gear a few times which gave me thorough shoves forward, I quickly paid attention to the fuel gauge.

Drove up to a servo, filled up 44L. Theoretically had 1L left.
Apart from going dry, what's the lowest amount of fuel you think you been driving on?

Receipt :p

Cant remeber the litres i put in but did 683km's on 1 tank and thats with peak hour traffic on the M5 everyday, no open roads. I about crapped myself when i pressed to button and that came up. My fuel light comes on about 500km's usually so i though i could make it to a servo easy but when it cam on this time i checked and it read 650km's.

44L is the most so far, in the past 41.XX would have been my lowest.

Yeah the fuel cut really shook me up, like a hiccup in the rev range- never experienced Limp Mode yet so I presume it's similar to that.

Heheh, I do this quite alot simply to avoid filling up on the high cycles :D

45.15L for 520km. Had fuel cut a couple times while accelerating briskly, I swear I heard some light tapping coming from the back.

I won't be leaving it that low again

I had a fill up of 48 litres one day, I spoke to the guy and asked how it is I managed to put in 3 litres more than my tank holds. He gave me some bullshit about how low my fuel must be and fuel lines and the angle of the car when filling up.......blah blah.

As mentioned on a few fuel saving websites though the fuel is done by specific gravity so hot days mean less fuel then what you are paying for, and the faster it pumps the more air you pay for. Now days I only pump at 2/3 speed and I have actually noticed that I am paying less for fuel on average for a full tank, at comparable prices that is.

Interesting info's, the question I have is how many km's have you braved once the fuel light comes on?
I'm too chicken to get stranded on the 20km stretch from work and home and have to have a jerry can come and get me to the nearest servo...

Cool, according to oog'le maps that's 73km from Syd Aereo-Porto. Not bad at all.
Working on my average of 8.2L/100km i could potentially see another 60-70km, or almost two days back and forth to work.

40.6 litres went into this tank, that was as low as i'd let it go
i dont fill the neck right up though, that would be 1 or 2 litres

Eh, you had 4 litres left. Maybe the Walbro fucks up at a higher level than the stock pump.

it gets noisy as hell once the tank gets low
and yeh, i'm always mindful of dragging shit into the filter (if its even possible on these cars)

The stock sock sits on the floor of the tank, The aftermarket walbro sock doesnt.

Also Mine makes heaps of noise when full haha

They are pretty loud, thinking of tossing mine and getting one of those quieter hi vol pumps from Garrett.
I forgot the name - I'll look it up and edit.

Edit: Deatsch Werks fuel pump from GCG

Thanks for that. I had forgotten about that air/fuel at the pump at servos, usually fill up and pay as quick as possible to get back on the road.

So now the checklist is going to be longer to fill up at maximum economy:

- Cheapest day of the price cycle
- Coldest part of the day
- Fill at less frenetic pace
- Voucher in hand
- NO CHOCOLATE FROGS ;D

Well, that sort of is the point of this thread. It's the game of Stranded Lotto - proud winner walks to nearest servo :P But given the point raised by havoc_rah, there's no real accurate way of knowing how much fuel enters or is left in the tank due to density and flow rate.

I've filled up after watching the needle move 0.1mm off empty on start up.
