I will be Atempting to make my own inlet and Intercooler pipes from Mild steel piping.Getting the stuff tommorow if all goes well i will put up pics of finished product. If i does turn out that good its only about $60.00 dollars worth of materials.I have know completed the pipe it was fitted for testing and is yet to be painted. You know can here the turbo working car seems to be a bit more responsive.

So, just one pipe? And can those welded joint be smoothen?? We should dyno the car before and after to see if its makes any difference ;)

Yes the pipe needs to be cleaned up as we had just finished it and a dyno run would be good to see if it has made a diffrence We used to 45 degree bends weld together to get the finished product once it has been cleaned up and painted iwill post a pic.

Actually, i would recommend to dyno the car first before cleaning and paint the new pipes. If it makes no difference at all, then there's no point to spend the extra on the remaining work.

some of us in singapore are already running on aftermkt metallic pipings..the car gets more responsive...do not that there's one more intercooler pipe that needs to be changed at the bottom for maximum effects...

any plans to change the intercooler return pipe as well killer ?
killercolt

That will be my next project is also to change the bottom intercooler hose. once i get the inlet pipe setup and then i want to get either a K&N or Ralliart panel filter and see if there is a diffrence with the response of the car

I finshed the pipe on the weekend and fitted to the car.Overall car feel more responsive and induction noise is awesome.

Also i might try and make the complete top intercooler pipe from throttle body to the bottom pipe out of alloy also using silicon joiners.

killercolt

OK total cost breakdown please remember pipe was made at home so i cant factor in labor time
Two 45 degree mandrel bends $15 each
Two Silicon hoses $138 for both
Clamps 6 $50
Total cost 260.00 inculing paint and primer.

better than 1800 bucks for ralliart ones no doubt.
i have seen on the pipe going to the turbo, not the bov outlet but the other, people have detached that one, put a tiny k&n breather on the engine side and blocked up the outlet on the pipe. that could save you some extra work as well. not sure what that pipe does thou, lol
nice work killer.

Steve the better setup for that pipe would be a oilcatch can pull it off and checkto see if you find a smidge of engine oil i did and a catchcan is nw on the todo list.
Steve-B
11-07-2007, 01:14 PM
where do you run the return to then ? or just leave it to a breather ?
killercolt
12-07-2007, 11:22 AM
Steve you attach the first hose to the fitting off the rocker cover then the other to the fitting off the inlet pipe so it still circulates but any oil vapuors are collect into the catch can.
Great job killercolt.
Just a couple of questions.
1) that intake pipe looks like a 90 degree bend? The first one you did.
2) what size is the intake pipe diameter?
3) can you recommend where we buy the pre-bent pipes & silicon bits
Thanks :)
killercolt
12-07-2007, 10:41 PM
the top pipe is a 90degree silcion bend the rest of the pipe is two 45 from Liverpool exhaust and i kept the diameter 57mm.
Oh so you replaced your initial 90 degree alloy pipe bend with a 90 degree silicon bend? Is the silicon pipe a better alternative to the alloy pipe?
I'm thinking of just doing the top pipe since it doesn't involve too much effort or any welding. I'll keep to 57mm = 2.25" as well then.
Thanks again for the details, killercolt ;)

Silcon hose holds the pressure better than rubber and was easier to work with
