haha nah better not hijack mitsi's thread. Mitsi is there any possibility of a workshop position opening in the future? That'd definitely make me quit smoking

Go for it Bunny, you should be able to turn your Colt into a mega beast with all those 'staff' discounts :D

Dave, I would't hire a smoker either, they spend about 80hrs a year on bloody smoko's!

thus they are allowed to. There's a reason why occupational health and safety has fatigue management and designated paid and unpaid breaks otherwise employers would be able to have continuous work shifts with on breaks. I never realized smoking was something to discriminate against these days. What next? Anti gay laws or ethnic discrimination? Once again a secular society trying to oppress people's own preferences and lifestyle habits. And btw over the duration of a standard 8 hour shift 45 minutes is the minimum requirement and entitlement over the shift spread for breaks. That 80 hours a year is a legal entitlement. Rant over

We don't have smokers because 1/3 rd of our business is selling race fuels, methanol and E85 fuels. Too much dangerous goods around to have someone smoking.

As well, working in an office environment, a small one, the stink of someone who just smoked would be quite difficult to be around just after they had a smoke, especially in the summer when we hide in the office.

at this stage we are not looking to employ any further workshop staff, as we are phasing out that side of our business so that we can focus on R&D work and development / mass production of parts. That is why i want someone in the office so I can focus more on development projects. Once this happens, I can make things happen faster, better produced and higher qaulity simply because I can focus more time and effort on it.

daed, you mention occupational health and safety when trying to defend your smokers breaks rights, that is gold mate :)
To non smokers - smokers generally stink like ashtrays and make everything they touch smell like ash trays, playing the gay/race etc.../minority card doesn't work for smokers. put simply it effect others in the work place (race/religion etc... does not effect others health and well being). When I take over a shift from a smoker at work I have to clean everything to get rid of the stink factor. Else I nearly dry reach when I go to use the phone etc... Why should I have to put up with this in a workplace because an addict works there?
Non smokers have rights too, but where is our 10+ minute bludge and chin wag every couple of hours, where I work I don't get one but it is acceptable for smokers to do so because of their 'addiction'.
Times are a slowly changing where smokers will be discriminated against more. It has already happened in public places even happening when kids are in your own car (in WA), next frontier will be workplaces, after that... maybe even your homes. I think you can expect to see more job adverts in the future stating non smokers only need apply. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate smokers, they can do what they like to their lungs for all I care, it just shouldn't effect others healthand well being... and fairness in the workplace.

ps. Give it up mate, I have heard it might fatten your wallet and increase your lifespan if you can do it ;)
Rant over.

lol... I'm an addictions counsellor and touché to Mitsiman for pushing the non-smoking thing...

In NSW there are very few jobs you are actually able to advertise for non-smokers... Not sure what its like in WA or if its a federal thing...

We all know the truth though... Smoking makes you sexy...

Enough of this rant guys, this is a job advert not a legal rights column. If you don't like the work conditions, then don't apply, simple as that! Only serious applications need apply - start a smokers rant somewhere else please.
