How many kilometres is everyone archieving per tank, with their Ralliart Colt?
What's been your best and worst?

worst fuel economy i've got is about 9.6lt/100kms, which is about 470k's
best in the 8s, but its usually around the 9 mark (note: i dont drive conservatively :D)
what about u rdster?

My best is around 7.5L /100km, but that's at the very early stage when i first bought the car. Worst is around 9L/100km. On average, i'm around 8.5L/100km. Can't say i drive agressively, but i like to stay constantly on mid rev range for both the turbo spooling sound & instant pulling feeling. Overall, its still a very fuel efficient little car.
*REMEMBER: This is counted by how much km i travelled by the amount of fuel i top up. Other ways of counting doesn't really count.

Last tankfull lasted approx 550km, which equates to roughly 8.1L/100km,which was driven around like a granny would! I would probably have better fuel economy if 98 octane was available around here.

So, you are driving the car with 95 octane?? That's abit dangerous as our car needs 95+....

I'm using Caltex Vortex, which in Tasmania is 96 octane.

oh! never heard of a 96 octane fuel in aus. But either way, its safe then for you ;)

LOL.
Never actually calculated the L/per 100km, BUT my best in a tank was like 470km out of 40 Litres (or there abouts) and my worst was just over 300km out of around the same. I have a feeling my Colt gets driven a little harder than most :D

As far as I know, running 95 octane is fine in the colt (which is premium unleaded), there is no need to run 98 octane unless you want a bit of extra performance/economy. Otherwise the sticker on the fuel lid would specify 98 octane, and there isn't fuel sold that runs with an octane rating of between 95 & 98!! :)

holy shit thats alota k's!! has urs got a 45lt fuel tank too?
and it says '95+' which in my understanding means incl. 95 and up..

550km's every week bacially. Best fuel economy was 6.7L/100kms (bp ultimate) and worst has been about 7.9L/100kms (vortex 95). Generally average is 7.1-7.4L/100kms

The 95+ sounds like anything above 95. Could that be a sticker placed in Jap for all its exports? Aus ain't the only country that gets RColt.

damn that some good consumption you got. Me average around 8L/100km.

Fuel octane is not directly connected to power. Higher octane fuels are used to avoid 'knocking' (pre-ignition) in high performance/high compression engines.
Usually, there is little or no benefit in using a higher than recommended octane fuel. However, some cars with sophisticated ECUs can adapt fuel and spark maps to the fuel being used, in which case some performance gain might be seen. I don't know it the Colt ECU has such capability.
Even if the ECU can re-map according to octane, power gains will be very modest, and probably impossible to detect via 'seat of the pants'. Some acceleration runs might show up differences, but the test would have to be rigorous and repeatable.
The simplest way to tell is by measuring fuel consumption using the different fuels. This isn't easy though, as driving style, terrain, load carried, traffic and weather will also be different from one tankful to the next. To get a reasonably reliable result, you would have to average the consumption over a few tanks of 95 octane, then repeat the test with a few tanks of higher octane.
Bear in mind though, that higher octane fuels cost more, which will eat into any fuel consumption gain.
The car won't care what fuel is in there, provided it meets the minimum octane.

the colt ecu does have the learning capacity, and the capacity to retard the timing and so forth if you get bad batches of fuel. it will slowly advance the setting back to optimal, but over time not straight away. this leads to the argument in "resetting" ecu's before strip runs and track days when you know the fuel and setting etc etc.

i just figured due to the sporty/aggresive nature of our engine its been tuned to run on 95 octane fuel or higher.. i don't think theres that big of a diff between 95 and 98 fuel - its only 3 different, its just simple numbers :p lol

i get about 450-500km on a tank which is piss poor for a 1.5l, but given the type of vehicle it is and the way its driven it's ok. previous vehicle (1.5l vtec jazz) pulled 5.8l/100km on a sydney-goldcoast trip they are stupid-crazy-good on fuel.
Did you get your figure till the point where the engine stopped running? Remember, our fuel tank is 45L and the fuel light starts turning on around 36L.

mines only got 1500kms on it, but looking like 450-525kms? a tank for average around town driving. Im pretty happy with that for the oomph you get out of the motor. :)

i always run to the fuel light. why???
well the car is new, if i always go to low, crap wont build up in the tank.

"Kms per tank" is a very crude and unreliable measure of fuel consumption, but a much more accurate measurement is easy to do. Simply zero the trip when you fill the tank (to the brim), then when you fill the tank the next time (again, to the brim) you note how many litres were required to refill the tank. You then have accurate figures for kms traveled AND litres consumed, which can then be used to accurately calculate litres/100km.

I basically use a software to calcaulate my cars maintenance cost each time I refuel. It's a software that is made for my Windows Mobile device. It give me information on my average fuel economy, most recent fuel economy, average fuel cost per dollar, total distance travelled, total fuel expense, and of course the fuel consumption rate per 100kms. Then there is also a graph...it's really cool except i must remember to enter all the information each time I refuel or risk the information being unreliable.
I've just got this installed and after a few fuel pumps I should be able to get an accurate figure for the NA Colt. If you've got a Windows Mobile powered device and would like this software drop me a PM.

thats how i do it
any recommendations on fuel types?
i havent filled up premium in ages, my lancer doesnt need it. Used to fill up optimax when it was around but now there's v-power and v-power racing.
Why is it that Shell charge an extra 8c for 95RON when they used to only charge 8c for 98RON optimax?
lovecolt
29-11-2007, 07:55 AM
V-Power is the new Optimax in SHELL's term. V-Power Racing is the 100 octane version (98 V-Power + Ethanol)
And, Shell charges 10c on top of 92RON for V-Power nowadays.
