im pretty sure the info is in other threads...
im pretty sure its just a different name they call it version R we call it ralliart... the gauges are option's power should be the same i think they get a nice blue color option as well and the Version R gets the same recaro's (not standard in all turbo colts there)
its got a different ecu thats more friendly and tunable and they brought out a version R special which is even better :)

99.9% no difference in terms of mechanical wise. If anything, i believe their wirings are different and ecu will be different as well. They are also known as Ralliart, but just with an extra "version r". The reason for this, is because they have the previous generation Colt Ralliart which we don't get. Therefore, its needed to separate the 2.

The version R special however, picks up seam welding which is nice and a few other upgrades.. possibly just all the ralliart stuff like the exhaust and gauges? not sure on that bit though. I think all the best motoring vids you would have seen around are using the version R special.
In their 08 version they still have the recaro's available as an option too, although this model gets the evo X recaro's.
doesnt our vehicle have extra seam welding or something too?
i read somewhere about it being the stiffest body of a car that mitsubishi had ever produced?

Correct, over the base colt.
But with the jap blue special ver R which has the LSD and even more spot welding over the normal ralliart colt.
they used a different seam welding machine, there was some vids about it if you use search :)

The COLT RALLIART Version-R Special got no LSD from factory. It doesn't has more sport welding compared to the COLT RALLIART Version-R.
Beside a little RALLIART goodies, the main difference between a Version-R Special and a Version-R is the continuous steam welding on the 4 door opening.

not sure if the JDM colt ralliart has more power, but if it does its possibly due to the better fuel they have in japan?

Power output is the same. The only thing is, there's a power increase for the 08 JDM which should be the same as 08 ADM.
has anybody in Mitsubishi ever given a reason for our car having a different ECU to the JDM models?
i.e. is it emissions related?

I lost track of the ECU discussion here. How you guys concluded that you're using a different ECU?
From the workshop manual by Aussie Mitsubishi, I knew that the Aussie Version-R has an extra O2 sensor somewhere after the 1st cat which we dun.

does your Colt come with 2 cats?? i think we have strict emission test from factory cars here... thats why more senors and different ones...

Guys, its the same with the Evo X. For instance the JDM car has a different ECU to the AUDM car, it even has a different part number. Big deal!
All in all, they are pretty much the same car.

I think it would be safe to assume - yes! Either way, the ralliart one is made by Cusco.:)

Yes, it is the Ralliart LSD. Bugger of job to fit one, but easily the best upgrade you can get if you are serious about track work.
