hi Guys,

FRom today im hearing grinding n whining noises from the my right rear wheel.... i didnt realise until i turned the music down. but its a on and off thing. it especially comes on low speed when i start speeding the sound disappear and when i slow down again for a corner it comes on.. >,<

im presuming an object is stuck between the disc and the brake pads...

so i tried to take the wheel off but the lug nuts wont budge ffs... >,<

its really loud...

could there be any other problems?

mechanics r all closed aswell.. >,<

I had this problem lol

it was my front disc. All i remember was i needed to change the whole disc to solve the problem.

Best to get it checked out. Worst case is you need to change dics's. I had to drive around with it for about 3/4 days. Its suck an annoying noise lol

just test drove the car and it only makes that sound when i turn LEFT...

wtf does that mean??

sounds like it may be a wheel beaing.

hen you turn left, its puts pressure on the right wheels and the bearing if they are dodgie, make noise, when you turn right it unloads that wheel and they generally dont make noise.

but you ant really toruble shoot noises from the internet, but as above thats generally what noise wheel bearings make.

Either way take it to the dealer and let them deal with it.

Your pads could be shot too, mine made slight squeeling when i turned but that was just pads and glased rotors, all fin after front brake change ;)

Jack up your car and try to turn your wheels manually. If its wheel bearing, you will hear it with a wooo....woo..woo sound.

drove the car again and its constant nowz... esp on the m4 doing 90km/h.. i can actually hear the wheel rolling along with that constant loud ear piercing noise.

friend who does alot of project cars told me a new car even with 30,000km shouldnt have a problem with the wheel bearing.....

also know my brake pads are nearly dead reaching nearly 30,000km without a single change with constant spirited driving. but the noise is coming from the back, but as we all know the front pads should be more worn out so im kinda confused to y the back is makin all that noise.

argh so pissed off.

on the edge of selling this car, eve my mates 15 year old civic thrashed all day is having no problems at all owning it for 4 years so far 170.000 on the clock!!

wtf mitsubishi!!

Trust me justin its your disc.

Its something to do with it being worn or something like that. I had the exact same problem.

It sounds like Metal scrapping against Metal. I had to replace the whole disc to fix it. Its not a bearing. I dont know how it did this as i had the car serviced about 2,000km before the sound appeared.

I had a thread up about it before also. Problem was sovled with a replacement disc and new brake pads.

lol! in this case, you should get a toyota that last even longer from thrashing :D

But your friend's right. Wheel bearing shouldn't have issue so soon and i agree with Ommeh about the pads/disc. My rear pad's wearing out quicker than my front ones at the moment. Most likely, its not because of fwd layout, but more like the OEM rear is piss thin.

I asked about warranty. They said no. Its because your pads are worn or something and it damaged the dics. I said the car had new pads on it and that was bs. They said no it dont matter. The pads damaged the disc or something and i needed both pad and dics to be replaced.

Pads are $140ish a pair
and the discs was $240ish a pair

IF you get in quick before it gets to bad you may be able to get away wi out replacing the pads as they said you could of machined em if i had come in earlier but yer. Try to get to a dealer or mechanic asap.

Well if your pads are worn they are designed to make very loud annoying high pitched noises, they have special squeal clips on them, its in the handbook for the car too, its so you know you have to change them.

Disk rotors dont last forever, the stock pads are rather harsh and tend to eat away at the metal on the rotor, so when the disk rotors reach a cirtin thickness they have to be thrown out.

Disk rotors are a consumable part, not covered by warrenty, and i beleve also wheel bearings are consumable to, cant remember off the top of my head, but have a look in the warrenty book, that will solve any questions.

Also when you change pads you should really machine rotors to get ris of any scoring or glazed sections on the rotor too, the stock pads cause this.

this is one of the reasons i went for the dual pot upgrade, cheap rotors and pads, and they pads are not very harsh on the rotors unlike the stock ones.

yeah im kinda confused as this high pitch noise comes on when im accelerating or when im turning left as its just my rear right wheel...

how much are those dual pots?

Macca
13-04-2009, 01:04 PM
take your wheel off and check how much meat is on the pad.

The dual pot prices are all the the thread mate :)

i washed the discs with high pressure guns and alot of black stuff came out... noise disappeared for 10 minutes then when the disc got hot again the noise came,, def gonna do replace the pads 2morrow at local mechanics.

will let u know m8!

funny thing is i can hear something vibrating sometimes if i put my ear next to the wheel for 5 minutes. is that normal?

Had the car for 15kkm now,

Never had any problems or sounds. Do alota hard runs throught the national park and still good.

I dont think this problem is caused by heavy braking.

When i had this problem i didnt do any racing or old pac runs for ages. It just happened :S

I should of asked the mechanic what the problem was but i was so fed up with it that i just cbf and wanted to get out asap as i had other plans lol~

ok guys just got my car fixed. problem wasnt that big.. one of the rear brake pads were worn to the max n therefore a metal clip was scrappin the disc.,. he told me the disc were in good condition and yeh its fine.. sounds completely gone but sometime i can hear it and then i realised it was an old van making a similar noise lol

funny how my front pads had 30% left while the rear ones were nearly destroyed..

Thank GOD it wasnt a major problem!!!!

Macca

the clips are designed to squeel with about 1mm of pad left. every service pads shpuld be checked, and I always had it written on the invoice.

what really gets me is the difference in pad useage between cars. I got 60,000 from the fronts with 2 track days and ill get 65,000 from the rear with 3 track days, but my rotors are over half worn both front & rear. & both required machining.

Must be down to the stop/start traffic in NSW or something, in Adelaide we don't have to worry about that as the traffic doesn't move at all - hence less pad wear!:p
