Hi all... i was in the traffic light with a RX-8 beside me..when the lights change, i fully pick up but i cant seem to catch up with RX-8 and within 10 seconds, he is already 2 car length in front of me.

Well...$1500 can get a ECU reflash that should make around 30 kw. I am currently still waiting for EcuTEK to come out with the reflashing of our car. Remember, our ecu is our biggest enemy. If its not changed, no other mods are of any use.
By the way, 2 car length behind a RX8 is quite alright. Remember, they are a 6 secs car and we are a 7 sec. Ain't bad ;)

$1,500.00? Easy.
Get HKS EVC electronic boost controller. Increase your stock boost to 0.7 - 0.8 bar for daily use. Set 1 bar for high boost for the occasionally sprint.
For stock RX-8, if its an auto. You'll lose him in no time. If its a manual, should still be able to suprise the driver.

That's if the boost controller works. At least it didn't work perfectly for mine. :(

What boost controller you using? Didn't really understanding what you really mean in your earlier thread regarding your boost controller.

HKS EVC..its good and i hav check, its cost abt $1400 with instalation... btw, did u install a BOV and what is the Brand that u will recommend for my CVR. Thanxs.

slowest ver r: I think Ting's using the australia's turbosmart BOV, which seems to be the only one that's proven to work on varies RColt. BTW, how is a HKS EVC cost $1400 (parts & installation)?? Labour is at most $100 sing dollar and even a HKS EVC 5 cost only maybe $800 sing dollar. (i'm basing on the price i can get a EVC 5 plus installing over here)

EVC should be safe for your COLT. All Version-R and COLT PLUS RALLIART here in Singapore using EVC. You shouldn't go wrong from here unless your mech screw up the installation.
I dun have a BOV due to the CEL. Me replaced my plastic valve to Evo 9 metal valve for better boost holding.

I disagree. a 2.5 inch exhaust with a resonator, high flow cat and one muffler gained 11fwkW. When a manifold was added to that system they gained a further 5fwkW.
Chuck a 3 inch exhaust with one high flow cat straight through with no muffler and you'll punch out 20fwkW extra if you put a decent tuned length manifold on it aswell.
Also the car was trying to boost to 0.9 bar with this exhast on, and was being held back by the ECU, so although 16fwkW is nothing to sneeze at, it definitely wanted to keep going.
Plenty of cars that have a lot stricter ECU's. MPS 3 for example. 0.3 bar in 1st and 2nd gear, RESTRICTED by the ECU. Ouch.

Evo 9 metal valve?? sounds cool... does it produce 'sound'? How much does it cost and where can i get it in spore? Btw whats is CEL?
Thanxs,i think i got so much more to learn from u guys...maybe we can meet up for drinks soon.

Well, as you said yourself, even when upgraded the exhaust, the ecu tries to hold it back. So, isn't that the ECU hold us back more or the exhaust?? Up to you to decide, i guess. In anyway, its my opinion anyway. Not neccessary true. :)

You can check out the singapore DC3 forum. There's threads around on the HKS EVC.

I think he meant the OEM BOV or bypass value from Evo 9. However, its known that EVO 8 MR OEM BOV is better than the E9's. In anyway, it will be as quiet as your current one as the E9 BOV is also a plumbback configuration.

It held it back from overboosting - not necessarily a bad thing ;)

But whenever you put a exhaust or sort of mod to a turbo car, the boost increase is natural. Or should we say, its rather these boost increase that give you the initial kw increase anyway. As for overboost, if its within the range where the turbo or engine can withstand, it doesn't matter at all.

of course 1 - 2 psi is natural! with the 2.5 inch exhaust it was trying to boost to 0.9 bar +. thats more than a few kW.

No sound from the stock Evo valve coz it's not a blow-off.
CEL = Check Engine Light.

Yes, me using stock Evo metal valve.
FYI, the stock Evo plastic valve (the same as ours) was changed to a metal type since Evo 8 MR due to boost leaking on the plastic valve. ie, Evo 8 MR, Evo 9 and Evo 9 MR all using the same metal valve.

Is it the same for E8 MR / E9 / E9 MR? Because Evo 9 owners in Aus seems to all change to E8 MR's metal value and stated it holds boost better.......
Oh well, we ain't evo's, hence no care if this is true or not :p

Can someone advise pls? Tks heaps!

the evo 9 MR BOV is nearly identical to look at compared to the rcolt one, the difference (visually) is that it's made from metal.
i'm not sure which one that is mate, it doesn't look the same to me

Hmm definately not an evo one. That looks like the bolt on type. I think subaru or toyota or something use those. The Evo MR one looks almost the same as the stock on the colt has. Just has the 2 outlets which fit into the hoses rather than the bolt on section like that one you have there.

This is what it should look like. The brand should be Tomei (they sell both a plastic & metal version of this). Click on the pics for larger view.:)

Thanks guys for your quick response. :)
I've done some search in the internet and found out what I have. Mine is the one indicated by orange arrow in the pic below. The green arrow is where it's leading from the exhaust to an adaptor (indicated with green arrow) that bolts on to the one I have.

Is the stock Evo9 dump valve you guys referring to the one indicated by yellow arrow in this other pic?

That's right, the bottom photo depicts the Tomei valve that I posted up previously, the top photo depicts what looks to be a part of the anti-lag setup (air pump?) - if that is what you have, then it is definitely not a BOV. If it was a BOV, then it would be plumbed into the intercooler piping, with the recirculating air plumbed back into the inlet.:)

Guys tks for your help. The part I got is indeed not the OEM Evo9 BOV but its recirculating valve... at least I learnt something!
