View Full Version : Is Speed Electronically Limited in CPT?

Does anyone knows if CPT (CVT) is speed limited to 180Km??
My speedometer is only up to 180Km and i was thinking of removing the
speed limiter if there is one by installing Pivot speed meter or Apexi RSM.
and perhaps to read the actual speed beyond 180.

Anyone have already installed it?, RPM is only about 4K+ when doing 180,
there should be room to go further than that.

around the race track i have had it at 170

I have had it close to 200 on an open stretch of road with a tail wind. I don't think our Australian delivered ones are limited.

I have had it at 180, but due to speedo max out at 180, i don't know if its still accelerating when you you're at WOT,or if it's limited there. Installing Pivot speedmeter or Apexi RSM will let you read the actual speed when the speedo have max out. and at the same time, remove the speed limitations if
there is one for CPT.

By the way, i am having the CVT tranny.( Singapore ).

Manual and CVT Version-R here in Singapore have no speed cut too. Is yours the facelifted CPT? If yes, most probably yours doesn't have speed cut too.

If your CPT has speed cut, you'll feel the car jerk when you approaching the speed cut region. Your RPM won't be able to increase near that region too.

PIVOT Speed Meter can't be use on COLT and its variant for speed cut removal (provided there's a speed cut) as stated on its instruction leafleat.

Not just our rides come without speed cut, I believe there isn't rev cut too. I rev pass 6k and my ride still going strong without pull back.

If after determine that your CPT doesn't has speed cut. What you need is a device that display speed > 180km/h. RSM does that but not too sure about PIVOT Speed Meter. PIVOT Speed Meter is cheaper and wirings are alot more simpler than RSM.

I’ve had mine up to just under 200kmph on a local freeway and to my surprise it still had some left but I had no nerve left. Well mine Australian Version Ralliart Colt being a 5 speed manual might be limited to 230 or 240 kmph as they do with the Ralliart / VRX Magna's but there is no indication anywhere I can find this. But if Look at some facts

Let me see at 110kmph in 5th if I remember correctly the engine was doing 3100 rpm that = 28.18rpm per 1 kmph.

So simply by doubling that 6200 rpm = 220 kmph Easy

Then 28.18rpm per 1 kmph x 231kmph = 6509rpm

And if the engine over rev is set to I believe 6500rpm that makes
230 to 231kmph the theoretical top speed of the Manual Ralliart Colt.

Can i just say the two guys who are from australia on here who both mentioned how fast they have had there colts up to are pretty crazy. I was on a forum where things where taken off a post about illegal activities and published in a paper. NOt only this but i also know of cops going on forums to read info like this. I dont know if they can use your post as a confession but im sure they could keep there eye on you.

This is by far a better way of working it out.

Just thought i would let you guys know.

By the way, we got ourselves a good ride.

How often you find cars with below features to match.

1. 1.5l DOHC turbocharge
2. Manual
3. Good fuel economy
4. No speed cut.
5. No rev cut.
6. Not forgetting our ASC and HID :D

Yes, Mine is the facelifted Ralliart CPT.( Manu.2006) Delivered 2007.Feb.
Well, It doesn't jerk at 180,Its only that the rev refuse to increase at WOT.,
But the Rev easily can reach redline from (0-160) but (160-180) sluggish response and the rpm actually drops to 4k+.( That's why i thought there is a speed limiter to provent the CVT from busting.

Checked with friend using Pivot speedmeter that it does read speeds >180.
But doesn't understand why it does not remove the speed limiter(If there is one) if there is a connection to the ECU's speed wiring?

By the way, What's your normal oil temp during City drive, WOT and Uphill?
Mine is Approx:90.C(City),Approx:115.C WOT or Uphill.) Is that too high?

Had mine up near 180 too - not saying where though :P

Was going to easily keep going, I just run out of road...

I can come close to 160 in 3rd too

Normal crusing, slightly less than 90. Wack hard on each gear, slightly more than 90. Mine never exceed 100. Only time it does is during my track sessions at Sepang. It reached 110 when I tracked in the afternoon. For morning, just hover pass 100 and less than 110.

How hard and how long was your ride pushed. and what is your cruise?
My experience was that even during the night, when it was pushed hard to max speed( It will shoot up to approx 113.C within a minute or so) . but it will drop to slightly above 100 when its at 140km. Ever tried to drive it up to genting? What's your temp if you have.?

Hi, Ramond6. and anyone who is willing to share.
Would like to know what's the normal oil temp you experience, After a hard and long drive? and normal city driving , Mine seems a bit on the high side. Not very comfortable with it. Need to check what's wrong if its not normal.!!!.

Raymond6: Ray, sorry to say this, but i'm with Shaneth on this. No matter if we are driving a Ralliart or a Ferrari, public speeding is definitely not recommended nor it is something to be proud of.

Also, Shaneth is merely stating that police do surf car forums like this and a recent example on www.nissansilvia.com forum proves that. And the guy in that example is now happily staying in prison for 3 months. So, if offence is taken with Shaneth's goodwill advise, there's nothing i can say.

Peace out.

*NOTE: If one must really speed, please go to a proper track day. You will have much better fun that doing it on public roads.
