i think you need around 2000km before you give it a thrash. But be sure to change all your oils around 3 - 4000km to flush away all the rubbish created during the run in.

Goodness me, i have been trashing mine around 500km....
At 1500km, hell broke loose with constant abuse of the engine boost to get my BOV singing....:o
Probably be installing a boost controller by 2000km....

Hey dude! Welcome to rcolt.com!
Modern day engines don't really require that much special attention to running them in.. If they did, be sure that Mitsibusihi would be the first to tell you this, as they don't want bulk warranty claims for hundreds of thrashed engines from not being ran in properly..
I flew down to Melb to pick my car up and drove it back to Canberra the same night. Boosted it fairly intermittently on the long drive home. Got the initial 1500km service pretty quickly.. The mitsu service guy said that they don't change the oil during that service, not until the 7500km next service.
So after that initial 1500km service, I have been using the car to its full potential.. In my mind though, I will be happy to get the original oil out of there at 7500km. Did seem odd to me that they waited that long, but I particularly asked the guy and he confirmed that its correct and that's the first time they change it. Fair enough..
Dude, 7500km for your first oil change?
You got con.

i agreed with AK47, because in your owner manual, the first service should be 5000. In fact, all turbo cars should change their engine every 5000km. In fact, my mechanic strongly recommend changing the oil at around 3000km for flushing away all the crap created from run in.

Yeah its weird. I always 100% knew all about changing oil super quickly after running in cars, particularly turbo cars making a bit of power..
When I got the first service, I said to the guy "So you changed the oil right?". He said "No, its just a check-up service to make sure the car is fine, the first service is 7500km and we change the oil then.". Immediately I thought, gee that's late for a turbo car, so I questioned him "Are you sure? What about running the engine in and flushing the oil etc??". He said "No, they are pretty modern now and that's when it gets done as per Mitsubishi's official servicing schedule etc." So I thought, well, he's the mitsubishi service guy, there's noone else I can go to!!! I thought, hmm ok things are pretty modern and perhaps they've relaxed the schedule a bit because the more modern cars don't actually have any metal and crap in the oil as they're a good tight engine..
I'll do some research now in my servicing manual and confirm to ensure he got it right..
But yeah I know, Every mechanic that you talk to will always tell you to flush the oil super quickly. I did the same with my old car blue monster (http://www.micra.com.au/blue-monster.php), we changed it at about 500km after running in the new engine.

I just checked my servicing manual, it says "change every 5000km"..
Is that the official oil change interval that all you guys go by? Do you drop your cars in every 5000km just for an oil change, and the main services are at other intervals..
So this retard had no idea and his lack of knowledge risked my engine wearing the f&#k out?? Its just hit 5100Km, I can drop it straight in and get that oil changed..
cheers

GENUINE MITSUBISHI SERVICE
GENUINE MITSUBISHI SERVICE SCHEDULES are designed to maintain your vehicle in a condition which will ensure it not only provides you with safe reliable motoring, but also complies with emission requirements of the relevant Australian Design Rules.
THE REGULAR SERVICE SCHEDULES
nominated in this book contain Mitsubishi's recommendations for the maintenance and servicing of your vehicle under normal operating conditions.
Frequent short run operation, more than 50 of driving in heavy city traffic, prolonged idling or stop-start driving, sustained high speed driving in temperatures above 32°C, driving in dusty, sandy or salty conditions, continuous operation at higher than normal loading, e.g. towing and similar types of operation can be considered as severe operating conditions and constitute conditions under which the following items should be performed more frequently:
Engine Oil
Turbo Petrol models — Replace every 5,000 km
• Engine Oil - To maintain the efficiency and durability of your
vehicle's engine, oil change intervals of models) or 5,000 km or six months (Turbo Petrol models), whichever come's 1st.
Under severe conditions intervals of 2,500 km or three months (Turbo Petrol models) are recommended.
So every 5000 Kms is the recommended service interval end of discussion!
All CVR from authorised distributor had their first oil change at 1000km, that includes me.

Thanks guys..
I rang the boneheads up again today and again questioned their previous advice to come back at 7500 for my first oil change.
The idiot today goes "what does it say in the book?". I said "every 5000". He goes "oh yeah that sounds about right, bring it in at 5000 and we'll change it and the filter".
What a galute. The stupid annoying thing is that these morons are the authorised Ralliart dealer in Canberra (National Capital Motors). They have absolutely no idea. Now my car has 5500Km on the clock. Luckily - just caught it in time. No big deal. They build some fat into the intervals to cater for cars not quite making it on time.
So its getting done. The only reason I keep going to these idiots is because of the genuine mitsubishi servicing receipts as my car is a lease as its a my company car. If I want to sell at any time, I want it to have the proper looking servicing. Bah!

i did my oil at 7500, but it looks gay on my service history so i will get it done at all the normal intervals from now on. It wont make that much difference when you change the oil guys...
