Multi-fit wheels only apply to the stud pattern (the wheel may fit cars with different stud patterns). The offset of the wheel will always be the same and therefore will only suit the car that allows that offset.
Eg. You have wheels that are multi-stud (can fit both 4 x 114.3 AND 5 x 114.3 cars), and are 17 x 7 with a +42 offset.
You have two cars, one with a 4 x 114.3 stud pattern and a +42 offset and one with a 5 x 114.3 stud pattern and a +20 offset.
The wheels will only fit the car with the +42 offset, the +42 offset of the wheel will be all wrong for the +20 offset car.

multi stud is 4x100 and 4x114.3 not 5x114.3 and 4x114.3
you rarely have any rims that support both 4 and 5 studs :p
