Ralliart Colt Version R Special Wins again in the latest BEST MOTORING

Not sure how many of you follows BEST MOTORING. But they have just released the August episode with a special factory tuned hot hatch battle.

Based on the amount of mods, the Swift & Jazz looks much more modded than the Colt & Yaris.

And the results.....??? Our Ralliart Colt wins from lap 1 till the end. For the first 3 laps, our colt lead by at least 5 car length. In the end, tsuchiya get bored of leading and slow down. But even then, the other's still too slow for the colt :D

Final lap time:

Colt - 1 min 11.119 secs
Jazz - 1 min 11.591 secs
Swift - 1 min 11.370 secs
Yaris - 1 min 14.988 secs


Tsuchiya also done a test drive in all 4 hot hatches and ended up giving 92/100 for our Colt. He gives his thumbs up for the Colt over any other car.

Personal Comment: I'm very proud of our little rcolt. With only a LSD (the exhaust don't add any value to the output) and abit more body strengthening, it beats all heavily modded hatches. And if you think about it, since when is HKS or Monster Sport considered a factory tune???

Our chassis has been built from the factory up to provide a decent platform for a more powerful and better handling car.

Adding the LSD prvides the extra grip FWD needs out of the corners

its a serious mod and i'm sure the results are there but i just cant get over that sort of money on something i cant see

its on dvd in japan, but i got mine online from torrent.

As far as i know, FWD with LSD will make turning circle bigger as both driving wheel's moving at same speed.

As for the expensive comment......i believe a set of rims cost more than the whole LSD upgrade and LSD is far more useful than a set of rims. So, if most people can justify the purchase of rims, i can't see why it can't apply for an LSD. ;)

As I have said many times previously, it just goes to show that handling really should take a priority over outright power, and this comparison proves that point. The other competitors may have been turbocharged & supercharged, but obviously their chassis's were not up to the task of getting power to the ground.

You might want to read the specs of each car again. RColt don't have any advantage in the tyre or brake.

why was the Colt driver zig zaggin all over on the straights..... seemed he wanted the other cars to keep close to him? if he had driven serious all the way he prol would have been like 15 seconds plus in front of em at the finish??? crazy Japanese!

Thanks for that fauxpas, I was hoping someone would post the race!:) I think the LSD made a big difference compared to the last hatch race. The Vitz was a bit like the previouslty featured rcolt - couldn't get the power to the ground out of the corners. Gotta love that supercharger whine from the swift - very tasty!:D

Yeah, the legendary Keiichi Tscuchiya... I don't speak Japanese but I think he refers to his zigzagging when issuing the point out... Certainly for fun...

RColt wins!

But before getting too excited does no one notice that the rcolt gets the third fastest lap time when driven by the same driver (tsuchiya). This is the most objective test of it's pace? The race has all different drivers. Although Tsuchiya does still rate it best!

Jazz quickest with 1.11.031
Echo number 2 with 1.11.067
Colt number 3 with1.11.119

Although I could be misunderstanding, seeing as how my japanese is a bit rusty

So test drive means fastest possible lap. Seeing as how the fastest laps were all posted in the "test drive"

Which explains why the Rcolt gets exactly the same lap time for the race as for the test drive (same driver for both parts of the video) whilst the other cars all improve with tsuchiya driving.

In which case the Rcolt still posts the third fastest time for the video. AND is the overall winner.

And tsuchiya rates it as the best anyway. And it is available to buy here in aus as it is presented in the vid. It is not an "aftermarket" vehicle. I would love to know what it would cost to build that Jazz from a stock VTi jazz- aepecially since the rcolt still wins the comparison

The Jazz also has a 1.5LSD, rims and tyres. I bet you would get no change from 10k, and probably more like 13k to make a car identical to the one in the video, including crap like those guages. Plus the purchase price of the car.

With a compression ratio of 10.4:1, I wouldn't want to boost the jazz/fit up too much, I reckon the longevity of the engine would be compromised! The rcolt runs about 9.0:1 with a triple layer metal head gasket, oil jet to keep the pistons cool and strengthened pistons specifically suited for turbocharging. The rcolt is definitely the cheaper option, and not to mention road legal as well. It would be cheaper to add some chassis bracing, buy the LSD and get the TMR mod to end up with a colt that will rival if not surpass the "Special model"

Sure you can buy the HKS turbo kit for the jazz, but it will not be road legal (if not properly engineered), and it will cost a fair bit more than $10000 for all of those add-ons due to fitting/labour/tuning costs.:)

It is hard to understand that the swift is not quicker. I would think with all that modification it that it would be the winner by miles.
