hey guys, after getting my rcolt (demo) i hav started getting this weird sound out of my clutch when under load taking off in first gear, im stuggling to think of a way to describe the sound but its loud and sorta vibrates a bit, like dragging a schol table across a floor or tiles....lol, when i took it to mitsu it didnt do it and said basically to drive it anf that its under warranty so if it goes bang they will fix it, im still a littole worried what it is, my dad seems to think thrust bearring??...

Even though there's lotsa noise from our clutch, I've never heard of any shudder... Never fear, let it settle in a bit... Warranty is always there if it goes to lunch...

If you intend on installing warranty voiding mods, wait till this clutch issue resolves itself first...

go do a hill start (and search) and as you go thru the friction point it grinds, you have the common problem of a snapped spring on the clutch diaphram, tell them (mitsubishi) to search the colts warranty claims for the clutch.

If it make the noise when the car is off, it would be a noisy thrust bearing, and they are an expendable item, cant claim for that noise.

Hey there mrcnugget..

Don't be too alarmed, its a common noise on a lot of Rcolts. I think you will find most of them have had the noise go away.

Do a search, and you should find some answers. :D

Is it happening on a normal takeoff under load, or when you really plant it and get copious wheelspin? If so, you might be getting some front axle hop rather than issues with the clutch. I sometimes get this when the traction control can't quite get the power to the ground, especially on rough roads. I also had the same problem on my Suzuki Gti, and it was fixed by installing stiffer Suzuki Sport engine mounts. Just a thought!:)

Yeh thats just a charicteristic of the clutch.

My noise was very definate, and you could constantly make the noise by holding the clutch at a point on a hill but keeping the car still and riding the clutch.

I know the sounds and how to make it, hard to discribe and i live in wollongong so i cant just come and show someone. LOL

Oh and fux yeh your right LOL

What i hear on banana's car, is definitely not normal. Remember we hear it pretty loud when we are in the Shell station, justin?? That's not uphill.

The noise where that you can make by holding the car on the friction point on a hill, its like a loud distinct grinding noise, it will make the interior rattle.

IS NOT NORMAL!

Signs of a snapped spring on the clutch, causing it to engage dis engage on an angle and damage the flywheel

My advice, take it to your dealer tell them you are having the issue, tell them to get on the computer and have a look at the warranty clames on the colts clutch, then also take a mechanic for a drive and show him the issue. demand that you take him for a drive, they you know you can show them the right noise you are talking about.

Thats what i did.

just bring in the car and let the dealer deal with it. I got my entire clutch changed. This is a thread with some pics.

umm the thrust bearing was replaced but it didnt solve the problem so they decided to replace the hole clutch instead.
