The aim of this thread is to let us understand our car better. Feel free to add on to the list.

Taken from "stevenb" off ralliart forum.

Secret 1#: There is a free hidden factory MP3 Player Attachment Cord sticked to the back of our CD Player. Hence all we need is a double headphone jack cord from any electrical shop and we will be able to jack up our IPOD to the CD Head Unit.

I think radiostar69 might have been referring to my other threads regarding this feature, as the aussie delivery colt does indeed come with a holder in the passenger footwell for such an item.:)

How do you access this jack cord? I was looking at a Colt Ralliart today and saw the AUX button on the head unit but did not see any auxillery port. If we buy a Colt this feature will definately be appreciated.

Well, the plug in is taped up at the back of the stereo. Hence you will have to remove the stereo to release the plug in cable and make a hole or some sort to allow future easy access.

here is a pic of the mini headphone jack on the back of the head unit, you may need an extension of you want to run it into the glove box or somewhere handy - good luck!

We have an extra bracket on the brake pedel, connecting to the firewall

We have an engine anti roll bar, it is on the lower aft part of the gear box and connects to the fire wall, to dampen engine twising

Engine Mounts are noise reducing mounts

A bracket is attaches the right drive shaft to the fire wall to prevent flwx and torque steer

Fuel pressure can be electronically adjusted to a certin degree by an electronic solinoide on the fuel pressure regulator (it helps on hot starts)

The extra body welds arent just welds, there are additional metal plates to aid stiffness thru the cabin, eg the C Piller joins to roof and both strut tower tops area.

the glovebox comes out fairly easy and gives even easier access to the aux plug on the back... just put an extension on it and have it in the glove box, no one will know! i took my cd player out and replaced it with a double din dvd player screen

also i have found if you press lock on the key once let it lock then press it again it folds the mirrors in!

Macca
06-12-2007, 08:47 PM
umm in fact if you hit lock 3 times in 30 seconds it will fold the mirrors in, hit unlock 3 times in 30 seconds it will pu them back out. if you retract them with the key, and not put them back out at 30kmh they will auto come out.

Hi ..im thinking of connecting my ipod to the standard deck. Just wondering with the aux connection at the back is it just a simple plug and play or do you have to buy a special plug?

I was thinking of purchasing something like this http://cgi.ebay.com.au/iPod-Car-Stereo-Dock-Connector-to-Aux-3-5mm-Audio-Cable_W0QQitemZ370004263119QQihZ024QQcategoryZ5835 0QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem

So the guys that have seen the connection i pose the question ..do you think it would work or have you guys found a better connector?:)

Corosith
18-12-2007, 07:07 PM
I'm pretty sure it is just a female mini-headphone jack from when I pulled my unit out. You will be able to listen to music, but with no control from the actual head unit. Most guys who have used the aux jack, have run it, or an extension into the glove box or somewhere handy - some Mitsubishi dealers have actually done this for their clients before delivery. The cord you have indicated should work (don't know whether it will charge the ipod), or even just a double ended headphone socket:)

also found that when you use the "once" intermittant wiper, by hitting up on the stalk.

hit it up quick and the wipers move slow

hit it up slow eg hold it in the up position, and the wipers move fast.

There's a row of 6mm bolts coming out of the firewall just behind the red suspension brace running between the suspension towers. Although this isn't really a secret, it's something handy to remember when running vacuum lines for a boost gauge.

There's a 5mm-8mm rubber knob on the wiring loom grommet, passengers side of the firewall. If you trim this small knob back with sidecutters, a 6mm vacuum line will fit perfectly through it.

I imagine the recaros are lighter than stock seats, but turbo and intercooler add weight. Either way, 60kg, most of which is upgrading of brakes and body rigidity, was 60kg well spent...

Taken from this review. (http://www.autoweb.com.au/cms/A_108017/title_Mitsubishi-Colt-Ralliart/article.html)

"Partly responsible for that handling is the much stiffer than standard body. Incredibly, the Colt body has been given a real engineering work-over – and not just with bolt-ons. There are 50 per cent more spot welds than normal; reinforcement has been added to the D pillar; some body panels are thicker than standard; and additional reinforcements are strategically placed. This adds 60kg to body mass (total is 1130kg) but body rigidity is up by 30 per cent. In fact, Mitsubishi state (and they should know!) that in terms of torsional rigidity, the Ralliart Colt is the stiffest Mitsubishi made – better, even, than the Evo Lancer."

I'm sure everyone who's tried already knows this, but my local Alberts managed to neatly fit a pair of 6.5" splits in the front door panel. They also put the tweeters inside the door panel, firing up through the existing holes. no cutting of the door trim necessary.

^^ and u were getting out of the passenger side door because.....

hehe i read the manual and found quite a few spelling mistakes!

but maybe a helpful one is when u start the car and put it into reverse and want to NOT get that grinding noise

manual says: to avoid the grinding noises when shifting into reverse, wait approximately 3 seconds with the clutch depressed when the vehicle is stationary

Spaceboy

the radio in the colt ES also has an "Aux" cable input, as does the mitsubishi express fitted with the same radio.

you can install it in the colt without removing the dash or the mp3 player

just pop the glovebox down out of the way and stick your hand up there.

takes about 30 seconds and $10 for a cable.

the dealer wanted to charge $50

MYTH BUSTED!

Not entirely myth.

- wind down all/any windows
- lock the rcolt by clicking on remote
- click lock 2 times to retract the side mirrors
- press and hold the lock button, the windows if wind up by themselves.

BTW I'm from Singapore and my RColt is the 2008 version. Based on the catalog it's part of the ETACS feature, should be available for all Rcolts.

Any Aussie mates can confirm?

Strange.... just to check, your RColts have the following features:

- Auto speed sensor for wipers

coz these are the basis of ETACS, available for all Colt variants in Singapore.

If i think of it, i'll test the window winding in my 2008 model tomorrow...

And yes, we do (atleast 2008) have speed sensing wipers... When the wipers are on the intermitant setting, they will slow down when you stop the car & speed up again when you start driving... My old Evo 9, 6 & fiance's Lancer does it also...

Noticed there was a section in the Colt book about various settings that could be adjusted (speed sensing wipers being one)...

Don't have light sensing headlights unfortunately though...

JayMan

Edit: Actually the window auto-up probably wont work... Our drivers side window doesn't even have a 'auto-up' using the button, ya have to hold it all the way... I'll give it a shot tomorrow anyways provided I remember.

Another amazing fact from the "Colt Files", did you know that the VRX colt has larger rear discs than the ralliart colt at 224mm x 10 vs 200.6mm x 10, but the rcolt has larger front anchors at 232mm x 25.8 vs 226mm x 24!

Probably shows you how much FWD's rely on their front brakes with drive and most of the weight at the front wheels!

Strange.... just to check, your RColts have the following features:
- Auto light sensor for headlamps
- Auto speed sensor for wipers

coz these are the basis of ETACS, available for all Colt variants in Singapore.

Don't take the flap off underneath the front air dam.

It's called a Gurney Flap, after Dan Gurney, and it helps with air flow through the engine bay.
I think you'll find that when stationary the hot air in the engine bay rises up through the bonnet vent but when moving the Gurney Flap helps air flow down under the car and sucks in cool air from the top down over the turbo and out the bottom of the engine bay.

Looking through my Version-R dealer catalogue, ETACS has the window up/down feature on the remote for the Japs.

There is a dealer option for a blue light to be installed behind the front mesh/diamond logo too. There is also a factory replacement for the top of the centre console in the middle of the dash to make it a tray to put your wallet etc on. I'll see if I can scan the catalogue by the weekend.

I'm presuming it was ripped off or removed from previous owner...

Are you talking about the plastic cover under the car that you need to take off to get at the oil filter? If so, that does diddly squat for anything. I took it off my Evo too.

the flap you are talking about doesnt feed air to the radiator dam
it sits behind the leading edge of the underside so wont push air up (plus it rakes backwards at the bottom)

i suspect it is there to smooth the underbody air flow

Are you talking about the plastic cover under the car that you need to take off to get at the oil filter? If so, that does diddly squat for anything. I took it off my Evo too.

ummmm.... isnt that plastic thing classed as a plastic front diffuser? Thats supposed to stop air from running into your engine bay and instead travel past it as it creates less drag on the car. It helps increase economy and performance also. I believe it helps generate some downforce for better handling. If it is classed as a front diffuser, you would be very very unwise to remove it.

A diffuser, in an automotive context, is a shaped section of the car underbody which improves the car's aerodynamic properties by enhancing the transition between the high-velocity airflow underneath the car and the much slower freestream airflow of the ambient atmosphere. It works by providing a space for the underbody airflow to decelerate and expand so that it does not cause excessive flow separation and drag, by providing a degree of "wake infill". The diffuser itself accelerates the flow in front of it, which helps generate downforce.

Rockstar

I would have said it was there to look pretty, but probably does something. I'd say to stop hot road air being sucked past the turbo, as air flow is (meant to) come in through the air dam, flow up the front of the engine past the turbo, coolin it, and then out the bonnet vent. Hence the reason it has the rearward facing fins which cause vacuum as air flows over it and sucks hot air out of the engine bay.
That vent (on a BBQ) is also called a diffuser.

The non recaro seats use the same rail mounts.

there was a cut out of two up the front, but nice circles, I used one to feed an earth cable in.

then there was none under the front seat, as I had to cut my to feed amp cables thru.

They look like a NEO WEDGE but dual contact unlike the LED replacements which are not dual contact

see the conductor touches both sides of where it grips this is important on the colt, as the PCB contacts are on the upper part and not on the base

i had a customer with a DB9 Aston Martin and another one with a Vanquish both were told from their dealers (one brisbane one gold coast) to have traction control turned off unless its raining. They were told not only does it go better but because of the power of the aston as soon as it thinks the wheels might spin it engages traction control and makes the pads wear out alot faster.

i know my colt goes better with it turned off just wish it would stay off!
