I have just had a lengthy discussion with the guy at my local autobarn and we went and had a look all around my car / engine bay at different things we could do to it.
We came out with:
- Blitz Electronic Boost Guage can easily be mounted down near the Cigarette Lighter as there is a grommet in the fire wall that can be used to get into the cabin.
- Turbosmart BOV especially designed for the EVO is a direct fit - All inlets and outlets are exact same diameter as the standard colt dump valve.
Told me to come back on Sunday and we're going to fit the Turbosmart BOV and see how it goes around the block. Getting the boost gauge fitted on Monday :D
Also got a quote on a custom ehaust from the turbo back - $1200. The Autobarn guy is going to call me when he finds out about some bolt on kits.
And for anyone in Sydney - Get at me because the guy from Turbosmart and GFB are trying to get hold of a RColt to do some testing. His seriously interested in getting some parts made for them but hasn't had the chance to get his hands on one. So get in contact with me and I can get the guy on to you - no problems. If I was in Sydney I'd already be there :P
Cheers!

will the BOV be direct bolt on?
27AME

As far as we are aware, it is a 2min. job, direct bolt-on. Only problem will be is if it causes any heartache for us with the strict system on the RColts :P

sounds great!!
btw how much does it cost?

Around $500 or something...
I would be the first in Oz with one fitted :P
By the way, we didn't just see the bov and go 'hey, that might fit'. The guy from Turbosmart actually told us to try it as he vaguely remembered that the 4G63 EVO engine and the 4G15 Colt engine had similar setups. Went out the car had a look and what do you know, almost identical!

I can't see how we can have a problem?
If we make sure the BOV is set to plumbback it's not going to affect the Colt system... I could see us having a problem if we set the BOV to only Atmo because the AFM will think there should be more air in the pipe than there is.
With the plumbback system (same as standard) it won't affect the car because the AFM will most likely read identical levels as standard. Air levels may be slightly different but the AFM reprograms itself over a couple of days to match small changes. Obviously if the readings are way different you will have a problem...
Don't know if that makes sense or if I used the right terms, but I know what I mean :P
Basically - Release too much pressure out of pipe = Sad AFM.
- Keeping same or close to standard pressure in the pipe = Happy AFM.

If plumbback works, and if you can also put in a pod filter, then we will be able to hear the nice "pss...st" BOV sound.
But personally, since we ain't upper the boost of our RColt and our OEM by-pass isn't failing, a BOV upgrade is virtually useless or provide little aid.

Your right - it's basically of no use but sounds cool :P
When our cars run 1 bar standard - not really any need to up the boost :P
However with BOV, the turbo spool may be more aggressive as the engine may have to create more boost due to the loss of some pressure... nahhhh mean :P

I wish you are right, but our RColt really don't go up to 1 bar. Its 0.8 bar max and drop to 0.5 bar after mivec kicks in.

I've already did quite an extensive trial recently on the BOV issue. Still can't solve the check light problem.
So for the time being. No BOV for us.

Just thought I'd let you all know that I purchased the BOV yesterday.
Took it home, took the old one off and it only took me about 5min. to fit the new one.
Works like a dream, loud whoosh noise and no engine light problems.
If anyone is interested I can get pics and model numbers etc. People who come to the QLD track day we're organising can come have a look at it then too :)

Good stuff......although i tend to hold back for a few more hard revving of the engine before it convinces me.

Man I have given it shit already - everything is totally fine. If the check light was going to come on it would have by now. I reckon all these people who have had problems are using atmospheric BOV's. Mine vents to plumb back before it vents to atmosphere - so no troubles with the AFM ;)

remember to get a pod filter or open a hole in the air box, which will give you the same sound as a atmos BOV :D

Dude the one I bought is a Dual Port BOV - it vents to atmosphere and plumbs back ;)
A bit weird though - took it for the first service today - so I took the turbosmart BOV off and put the stock one back on... driving to zupps the stocko one sounded exactly the same as my turbosmart one? I was like hmmm... Gotta look at it tonight - I don't think the stock BOV likes the turbosmart vacuum lines!

just picked up my PWR 200hp water to air intercooler! RPW says it should not set off the ecu (and they should know!) as its a simular air path and no changes to atmo exposure.
this should
A) decrease spool time as my turbo hose will no go directly to the intake verticly via the new cooler
B) reduce heat soke when stoped (ever noticed how much the car can bogg down in hot days at traffic lights for a while then come back to life after you have started moving?

fark yeah man!!!
How much that set you back? Have they designed it specifically for the colt? Do you have to modify anything to fit it?
Also, do they make the same kit in air to air?
Got my car back about 4 today - found out I put the stock BOV back on the wrong way :P thats why it sounded aftermarket! haha...
Also had the turbosmart bov on the wrong way for the last 2 days - now it sounds farking loud!

Maybe the sound you hear from the turbosmart BOV is not the actual BOV sound.
As you know, we can imitate this BOV sound by accelerating hard then quickly release the accelerator to produce a BOV sound-alike sound. This sound will be even more distinct when you change to open pod.
Anyone agrees with me?

genuine products are NEVER cheaper...
My BOV is totally legal and holds more than 22psi of boost, Is also a factory fitment - no mods required.
