Nope we have TF035 turbo... td04 has similar mounts but I thinks it slightly bigger

Ahhhh, ok... Its a diesel motor turbo... ford transits and jeep cherokes and tritons and foresters... :(
wow the old 1983 colt was turbocharged?? cool!
too much lag if we go for a bigger turbo i think, would only be good for the track and you'd need long straights

I'm pretty sure that is not a genuine TD04?
I didn't get a good indication from the pictures how big that turbo was, but it looks bigger than a TD04H that we would put on our colts. The TD04H is hardly any bigger than our standard TF035.

Looks a little bit bodgy to me as well... notice that the wastegate flap valve has been welded shut and it is missing the actuator and rod...
This looks like it has been re-conditioned and set-up to use an external wastegate which means you would have to modify the existing exhaust manifold or build/buy a new one to use it.
Colt with a Screamer pipe would be fun!

Haha colt with a screamer would be funny.
With the price of turbo's, I wouldn't be going the dodgy. Yeah that one could be had for like $400 or whatever, but once a few manifolds are available, theres a number of turbos that we can use that come in under $1500 (GT28RS, GT2530 etc etc if you're game try a 2871r or 3071r for a little extra :p). Worth the price for the piece of mind, not to mention how much more fun they'll be.

people seem pretty keen to jump turbo's pretty quickly, i think that the standard TF035 unit while old in design, is still a pretty good turbocharger with the ability to produce probably around 230-250hp.
that alone is enough to make the chassis work and the tyres melt. power alone does not make a quick car .........

totally agree and hence the reason I bought the car for its handling, Cam!
However I'd love a nice GT28RS just for the wow / fun factor when you hit full boost. While not ideal in a race situation, I have always loved Jap turbos with slight lag and then huge pull as it hits boost. All depends on what you want out of the car at the end of the day. I mean singapore boys are making 220+kW atw with unopened engines on GT2860RS turbo's, imagine the potential of these engines with the full internals and some drivetrain strength. Very exciting future for us RColter's :D

I dont think the standard turbo can flow enough air up high when mivec hits in hence why we all have the decreasing in boost even with MBC's

The stock TF035 would definitely max out before redline, but the ecu definitely does play some part in this tapering off of boost. Something like the GT28RS would come on a little later (not much later, it's still designed for responsiveness on "small engines", even though they say 1.8L and above), but will power through the whole rev range. Couple this with other mods and you'll have a nice boost curve from full boost onwards.
