How appropriate, a colt standing next to a fence.. in a field. Looks like it needs to be broken in though. I think you should stop horseing around, get in the saddle and gallop into the sunset.

nice one mate.. congrats ;)
lol you car molesters and your impure thoughts
if you buy it, the mods will come...
found a pic of the outgoing set of wheels... this car is dubbed the bone rattler due to excessive exhaust and induction noise. it has an uncanny ability to scare small chidren and animals. 94 Bluebird SSS...

took her for a nice drive thru the vineyards in the cool night air.... was loving it :D
removing the battery to replace the air filter was a bit effed though, mitsubishi didnt supply the security codes for the radio so i am going to have to drive to work tomorrow without me choons :( boo urn

Dont worry mate, when I first got my K&N panel filter in I left the radio off for about a week enjoying the new sound the filter gave off :D Apparently the K&N Pod Filter is so loud you wont need a BOV :) - yet to get one of those but will eventually, so wont be getting a BOV.
The sound from the panel filter is not too loud, is a light whistle sound.
yeh i dont think its that loud at all. i have the standard exhaust and everything still too so any gain in noise should be exagerrated.
the turbo whistle is a bit louder. i must admit the roads i were driving on were very open so no buildings to bounce noise off.
oh and the fact that i have been driving the SSS this week, which has a 2.5" with a single lukey and all the noise dampening chambers removed from the induction so it sounds like a spitfire in comparison to the little buzz that the colt emits from its rear end ;)
if you want noise, i'd recommend the K&N 57i kit. i had that kit on my Mirage (4G15) and it sounded meaty.
debadged and considering whether to take it the step further and get the rear wiper removed and smoothed over... hmmm smooth bum

Is that a Swedish flag? and bugger shaving the rear wiper off, if where you live is anything like where I live at the moment, the rear wiper is bloody gold. Once it rains and dirt gets thrown up everywhere, it's the only thing that lets me see out of the rear window. Looks like you did a decent job de-badgeding it though. Just the flag breaks it all up, it'd look uber-sleek if that wasn't there. I reckon the black rcolts would look good with all of the plastic fenders color coded too.

checked out your times last night Damo http://www.classicrally.com.au/Speed%20Dome%20Day.htm
Good for ya first go at it, Ayu was around 55-56 seconds (if it was the same course?), shows what some PDC pre training can do maybe? added to your pill-less power :)
i think they changed it slightly from Ayu's track, as all the times were a little quicker. same start point, just went straight through the roundabout instead of turning right. i'll scan the course map a little later and post it up.
re: my performance
i was trying to go too quick and didnt keep it smooth until the last run where i muffed up a great run with a garage penalty. without that garage penalty i would have been much higher up the standings.
the day was all about trying different techniques for me, tried with and without ASC on, times were no different with or without but it more fun without lol. tried to brake really deep and induce some oversteer but it was hard doing that and keeping it lined up for the exit. the last run was keeping it smooth, staying off the power until out of the bends and entering the corners at slower speeds, keeping the car composed.
swapped the advans to the front and the car ran alot nicer than with the cheapies on the front, heaps less understeer. car could spin the inside wheel the entire course if you let it (except the back straight). LSD is moving higher on the wishlist all the time. the next thing that is done to the car is suspension... need to get it lower and stiffer in the rear. i want to keep up with the track days, perfect the techniques and improve the car so i have budgeted some dollars each pay to fund mods for the car.
edit: attached course map
Darthrev
02-09-2008, 07:52 PM
yea course looks a couple/few seconds quicker then when Ayu ran it... maybe cause that $90K Porsche ran of form that other/first corner where it hit that tree! :p
Ayu452
02-09-2008, 09:31 PM
yep it is changed...it also hinders your speed....the corner the 180sx crashed....u will be going slower....not along run up....which could be good or bad....
the tree was scary enough as it was
the day was incident free, apart from a couple of spins and the old BMW 635 frying its engine and emitting a cloud of smoke to rival the hindenberg
the Colt is sitting idle (mods wise), its needing tyres pretty badly now, down to the wear indicators are on the front. still tossing up on buying 17s or just replacing the 16s tyres only.
saving up for suspension bits at the moment... thinking Ktec
latest mods: fitted the GB rear wing a few weeks back, along with a RPW rally spec shifter and boost gauge. bit by bit.
she got a wash on saturday so few pics attached, cleanest its been for months. pics of boost gauge and wing to follow.

you're having the same dilemna as me :(
you're having the same dilemna as me :(
its hard because I cant afford top range tyres in a 17" when I'm buying wheels at the same time.
if I go for the looks of the 17" wheel with a cheaper tyre I am sacrificing performance, the performance is important to me, especially if I am going to do more motorsports in the car.
if I go for the really good tyre in the 16", I retain the performance aspect but I am stuck with the plain-jane ugly stock rim.
I'm a torn man :)

yeh that was the original plan, which i might stick with.
wouldnt mind powder coating the stockies red for competition or something, anyone know how much thats going to cost me roughly?
also, the gauge is an R-Sense item (Sukodu is it?), thanks Jacky :D

yeh i love black just hate trying to keep it clean
current mods list:
RPW short shifter
K&N pod filter
276mm slotted rotor, Evo twin pot calipers, EBC Green stuff pads, stainless steel brake lines, PBR fluid (FR)
RPW stainless steel cat back exhaust
rear seat and false boot floor removed
Sokudo boost gauge
Toyo T1R 205/45/16 rubber
Ralliart copy FRP rear wing
carbon rear badge, colt badge removed
Eonon DVD head unit
mods planned for future:
springs & bracing TBD
RPW underdrive pulley
RPW front pipe
Front mount and pod to SMIC position
ECU reflash
ECU tune OR boost controller
better head unit and speakers
nearly halfway there
tracked the car on Thursday last week @ RAC Driving Centre at the airport, on both their long track and skid pans (pattern 7)
had an awesome time, the exhaust makes a great noise and the popping and crackling on the overrun turned some heads haha
burnt the coating on the calipers, RPW probably need to look at using a paint with a higher temp threshold.
car understeers on the slow speed tighter corners, needs lowering and bracing in the rear to keep it planted and stiff.
spectators said the car looks fast, was cocking inside wheel on hard cornering.
was using handbrake on the middle cone on pattern 7 to induce oversteer at about 95kmh, back tyres hate me.

no probs at all :)
i'm going to probably go down again in about a month
will let the forum know so we might be able to get a couple of colts down on the long track (and some spectators)
there was a 200sx, R32, evoVII, wrx and NX coupe all giving it some welly that day. in the session after us, there were a few silvias, skylines and an evoX
the 200sx and R32 were both drift cars and quite good to watch, the R32 got thrown off the track for being too much of a hoon, was quite hilarious.

the hardest part was undoing the nuts, they were a fiddle.
bit of a diary note for myself more than anything....
car threw a random cel this morning
RH turn from a stop sign, hard shift 2nd, brake hard downhill for LH turn, power 2nd up hill and on it comes... no boost cut
conditions: dry, cool (about 17deg) and clear

Ypu got the pod K&N afterall? u changed it's position or left it in the same dark and heated space it fits?
its sort of in the standard spot for now, i've got it bent down a little bit to keep it a bit lower and away from the heat.
waiting on the FMIC piping to be finished and, after then it will be in the position where the standard intercooler is.

Sounds interesting, but what are you going to use to extend the circuit way there and what about the wires from the sensor?

Recaro seats got the airbags on the side? That's how mine have, tempted to change them with recaro, but dunno if evo 8 seats have side airbags.
nah
the recaro equipped colts dont have side airbags
colt has been playing up something fierce for the last few weeks
constant cel, P0140 which from reading is a dead 02 sensor
clear it and then it goes away for a day or two, until you give it beans then during cool down cycle it pops back
weird 4k rev limit on the way to work yesterday, probably related
sounded boss crackling off the 4k limit though, like anti-lag lol
might end up getting the reflash after i take it to get serviced locally, get them to sort the o2 sensor and then get it done.... i've just lost the passion for the car lately :(

the 4k rev limit is a type of limp mode. it pops alot cause its overly rich and shit to protect the engine. if you restart it should go away.

I was thinking of getting my wheels powder coated orange as well (mine is a black Rcolt) and now that I know how it looks like im a lot more confident in doing it...
i didnt spend the money on powdercoating... i just painted them. but then again, they arent going to be on the car all the time, only cruise/track days
with bright colours like orange, you cant just lightly sand and then paint over these wheels (they were already painted gunmetal). i had to sand, then undercoat so the orange would pop. i reckon with ongoing road use the undercoating/paint would chip, as they chipped a little when the tyres got fitted. i left the wheels out in the perth sun to bake for a week so hopefully that will harden it up enough to prevent it to some degree.
PS: the car gets a lot of attention now... amazing how many people double/triple take
maybe i should paint my stock wheels orange too. i like that look.
