Guys,
I had the pleasure of having Ken Hiso's car for 2 hours before the cruise on anzac day. It was mostly for me to practice my photography skills or lack of but ken also asked me to test drive his car, in VS to mine and give him an idea of what i thought about it.
Waiting abit and thinking about it over the last day I can honestly say that when boost comes on, you can feel the extra air moving around the system and when boost comes on, it is alot "fuller" and Alot stronger. Cause ken has his bloody boost gauge so far down the dash i couldnt see a reading for you, but when boost comes on its strong. For reference also ken's only engine mods consist of a K&N filter and an aftermarket dual BOV.
In comparison to mine, which has a MBC, CAI and ralliart filter ( intake and boost ) I would say my car has a quicker take-off with more air coming in earlier but i would have to give it to kens intercooler, the ferociousness of the boost is on par, if not better than all my mods.
I also take back what i have said to alan on afew occasions and to anyone on this site, about the quality of the greddy / trust kits piping, saying that it is too thin and would heat up and cause loss in the system. 100% false. The metal used on the piping was top notch and it would make me not want to buy an inferior product over the greddy / trust kit.
The only downside is that the top pipe that holds the BOV is sold separately, that is my only gripe about the whole system.
Ken, your car is an inspiration, and i thank you for the support you have given this site, and its great to have you here and as one of us mate.

i was looking at getting the intercooler kit, how ever i was told i might need a re tune?

I couldn't see why you would need a re-tune, as the intercooler simply cools the charge air down, and make the whole process a lot more efficient - not as much heat soak on hot days. The only downside is as Steve said, it will be a bit lacking down low compared to the standard system, due to the fact that the air has to travel further to get to the throttle body, versus the short tract of the standard intercooler.:)

To further what Steve said about the TRUST FMIC, i personally think its a very well worth investment (should be the top 3 power mod for everyone).
If you think about it, besides the extra power & heat reliability, it also give your exterior a better look ;) In addition to that, it will also further enhance any possible future power mods that one will do.
For all of these, it only cost $1190. What a bargain :)

if you want to wait for months for it to arrive. With imports and customs JAS can get it for you cheaper and quicker.

On the topic of cutting. I talked to ken a fair bit about this. As you all know my car is going into development with SABER but not anytime soon as yet.
I spoke to him about mounting. There was no need to cut the crash bar or any metal. The mounting that was supplied wasnt the greatest and ken took hes kit to Top one. They custom made a mount for the cooler so that it would sit just right.
As for cutting, the mesh was cut and a bit of the lower lip area to accommodate the width of the cooler. If it was using the standard mount and i quote from Ken "I would look very ugly".
All in all i, like steve, have no doubts in this system anymore. The piping was 100% top notch and i do recommend this to anyone who wishes to get a cooler soon.

no, im not planning to cut it myself, i'm looking to get the cooler myself but in the true style of jeff, im trying as hard to keep the car looking as stock as possible. when i get the cooler, i WILL by spraying it black and i WILL try to make it so that i either dont cut any bar off or try to minimise the cutting, either way, i just need to know, what needs to be cut and how much of it.
and about this custom mounting, did that relocate the bar or anything? please help on this topic asap guys, i am in hong kong now and plan to buy the cooler before i leave proveided that my "keep it as stock as possible" criteria are met.
thanks guys.
but by the sounds of it, i may well be joining ken's ranks in intercooler ownership.
please ken, steve, tommy and ryan, if you've seen hiso's ride or have some pictures, or even just a GOOD verbal description. let me know soon.
Jeff.
PS. will be meeting up with TORNEO today.

jeff, the custom mount, would be for the cooler to sit lower on the front. Otherwise it would sit higher, and you would need to cut the crash bar. With the cooler sitting lower, you have to cut into the plastic on the bottom bar.
i reckon the cooler, if you want to stay stock looking, you need a smaller cooler jeff.

Yes jeff thats right. The custom mount allowed for a better sit. It looks great but with that "stock" look you are after its a big no no. My recommendations are if you really want get the Greddy cooler BUT get a smaller size. Ask the guys in HK, they prob can source you or prob have on shelf a smaller size cooler. Get something that is shorter height wise and a bit fatter. Like how i explained to you in eastwood when we meet up. But then again looking at the Greddy pipes, the pipes itself extrude through the mesh so if you plan on having it behind the mesh you may need to cut the piping witch i really dont recommend doing.

Steve , did u measure the diametre of the pipings?

Personally, i think the way Ken has installed his FMIC, is as stealth as you can make it. Plus, if you are thinking of spraying it black (including the piping) it will be as every bit stealth as you wanted, Jeff ;)
