Hi All,
Great site, this is basically the first RColt forum right? I found the link from ralliart.com.au forums and good move getting in this space early, this site will grow a lot in the coming months.. Top work!
I'm picking up a gunmetal mica rcolt this Saturday. Getting excited!
I used to own this car:
http://www.micra.com.au/blue-monster.php
It was very very fast, 0-100kmh in just over 5seconds, had all sorts of serious modifications (800Kg with about 160-170Kw @ flywheel). But absolutely everything was custom made and the car became the biggest nightmare of my life - it was constantly off the road always getting repairs - one time it was off the road for 12 months, then 5 months another time etc - you can get the picture. It was getting older (1995 model) and just lacked refinement. Lots of things were beginning to annoy me, lots of rattles, things repeatedly breaking and having to get the same thing fixed just due to poor design e.g. exhaust mounts etc. This car was so damn fast it wasn't funny, it could beat XR6 turbo's, 285kw clubsport V8s etc, no worries all in a straight line.. But it just felt unsafe to me when it was going so fast because the car was never designed for that much power. I began to dislike the car a lot and wanted something that I could basically trust with all the work already done. Even the aftermarket crystal headlights for it were rubbish and they didn't point straight ahead and could not be adjusted - it was a losing battle. Something smooth, smart and modern with great grunt and handling all in a refined package.
So I sold up almost a year ago and got a boring, reliable family car just to tide me over while I began to watch the Australian hot hatch scene spark to life again.
I became very sick of the family car quite quickly and began to crave an ultra modern hot hatch with all the latest smart technology that you could really enjoy to drive..
As soon as the RColt came out, I loved it and kept my eye on them. Then after 2006 ended, I got in touch with a dealer and negotiated them down because its now a 2006 model and got some ralliart floor mats thrown in.
Anyway, getting pretty excited and can't wait to run this thing in!
I'd be keen sometime down the track to go cruising with any other RColt owners in the Canberra/Sydney/Newcastle area. I flick up and back to Newcastle semi-regularly.
Regards
cisco.
