Australia RColt come stock with only a factory immoboliser, unless its put in by the dealer.

Personally, i go for Brant. I had that on my previous 200sx. I has all the features one ever wanted. Auto window up, 6 point immoboliser, radio wave interior sensor, shock sensor and etc.

Here's the website to it http://www.brant.com.au/

It's been awhile since the last post in this topic. Was wondering if anyone have installed alarms since? I'm thinking of installing an alarm but I dont know if there are any implications with the car insurance, will it bring the premium down?

Anyone heard of Viper? It's big overseas in South East Asia but over here it's rather unheard of. I know only Autobarn installs it...but I don't know if they are reputable for alarm systems. Factory upgrades are just expensive. The full featured ones are like 200 dollars more and gives you remote starting, etc. I don't wanna sacrifice my Mitsubishi car key...

Brant is the way to go. I had this on my MR2, R33GTS-T and Evo 9. With a lot of insurance companies it is mandatory to have this alarm/immobiliser fitted.

Spend the extra it is well worth it. I would also install a reed switch fuel cut out as well. My RX7 had 3 attempts at being stolen and never got away because they had no fuel!!

QuikTrak is also good. Both QuikTrak or BRANT is around 1k mark. And the good thing is, you can integrate both system into one ultimate system ;)

remote start won't mean you won't have to use the key. if the handbrake is released the car will stop running and re-arm itself if the key isn't in the "On" position.

I would recommend Code Alarm. They use high quality components in their alarm modules, and are ultra reliable.

Here is a link to their Australian website http://www.zylux.com.au/CodeAlarm.html

#1 rule for stereo's never play them at any volume with in 3km of where you park it.

I was going to get a car alarm but they didnt have the wiring diagram they needed and i got lazy and never went back.

I generally never park my car in dodgie place cause i just dont seem to go to them.

Ayu I feel for you man. That sucks so much.

You want to execute the people that did it.

I had a lancer that was sorta "hotted up" was broken into three times with attempts to be stolen (ripped the wiring out of the ignition, tried to break the steering lock unsucessfully)

Got an alarm, and they STILL TRIED. Got broken into 3 more times after the alarm was in, they still tried to steal it even with the thing blaring.

When I get an exhaust the car will attract a bit of attention so I might go that Rhino Rav3 which has a built-in turbo timer...

My car is in the driveway and in a VERY dodgy suburb. They decided to built a brand new development next door to the ghetto. Everyone around here knows all my cars have top of the line (bordering on illegal) security.

Having sold alarms for years there really is no difference between any of them. They all work the same. Cheap ones will need to be replaced every few years because they outdate where as more expensive ones will last a little longer. Main thing is DO NOT lose the keys/book. VERY VERY VERY important and if you lose one of these and your battery goes flat you will have to replace the whole lot. After a few years info and spares on alarms becomes hard to find especially if you don't remember model. So you can't reprogram remotes, etc.

I always used Python. Best of the best in the US. P6000 is top of the line with 6 channel remote for remote start, door poppers, etc, and it's 2-way so the car sends info to the remote within 2km if a door has been opened or alarm is going off/deactivated, etc.
However I started using Black Widow because it's so cheap and soes exactly the same thing.
Don't be fooled by that jargon, code hopping remotes etc. If someone wants to steal your car and they have the gear to read your remote signal then a code hopping remote won't stop them, they are pro's. Same as black wired. If they're in the car and can read the wiring diagram, you don't stand a chance.

I do reccomend battery backup siren, however they can be a pain as they will go off if you dissconnect battery, or it goes flat, so keep the key handy to turn it off. I pulled one out of a customers car without the key one day and I put it in a box, and that bxo in another box, wrapped in bubble wrap and a towel, then put it in the industrial bin, and it was still loud. Went off for 6 hours.

If your getting extra components that is where quilaty counts. Cheap glass breakage sensors aren't much good and they don't detect window "popping" (where a screwdriver is inserted into the rubber and twisted until the glass pops) Good quality ones work on the sound of breaking glass and are better. They go off when someone is TRYING to break the glass.
2-stage motion sensors are a REAL pain and will go off all the time and after a while you'll become complacent. Use a good quality one and set it consevativly. It works on magnetic fields outside the car (not motion) and will set off a pre-alarm which will deter gawkers. Theives will probably keep going. Then it works on pressure changes inside the car to go off.
A good quality tilt sensor is also must. Cheap ones are an electrode on a flimsy stick that when the car moves/rocks/tilts it goes off. Good quality ones use mercury and are much easier to set and more reliable, and they turn the alarm off if the tilt is too high because obviously the car is being towed.

Make sure you know legislation in your area as most places requires nuisense feature, which stops the siren after 30 seconds. To avoid a steep fine. Nearly all alarms have this built in.
If you read the instruction manual of any alarm and look at the features you can turn on and off you'll know what suits your needs. Most won't come with motion and tilt sensors, they're extra. Built in glass breakage and tilt sensors can be upgraded. You just tap into the alarm and pre-warn wired of the system.

One more thing, have it all installed at once and set up straight away. One installer will not work on another installers alarm. It's too hard and can take hours. So you need to get the same guy to do everything.

Anything I missed? LOL.

Ayu, that sucks. Coming from another victim, I hope you have insurance and it works out for you.

Rockstar, thanks for your insight ! Sounds like a blackwidow with all the bells and whistles is the way to go ?
